I threw up typing it. My optimism also relates to the fact I avoided almost the entire game against Port. I let my guard down and listened to parts of the first qtr but turned it off. See no evil and all.

Man U seem to like being punished and beaten up. A stint In our backline should be right up your alley !

Rusty, I had to read your post three times to realise you weren't talking about soccer. When I played it was in the backline, in those days we dished it out. But I agree our backline are getting punished.

I think this is the year before we start to play our best team every week, the coaches seem to be experimenting.

Dawes, Grimes and Trengove definitely in the running for a place in this week's team.

ALL IN PLUS OLIVER AND POSSIBLY FROST DOWN BACK!

You can put a bunch of blokes on the chopping block but Hunt shouldn't be one of them. I thought he was outstanding for the first 3 qtrs vs port.

players in danger:

ANB, Newton, Kent (his good 3rd qtr might save him),  Harmes, Wagner

I reckon this mix is close to our changes for this week. Dawes, Frost, Oliver, Grimes and Trenners in contentioin for selection.

Can someone help me out? Clearly I must have a comprehension problem, because I cannot decipher what that bolded section means.

one of its' few functioning defenders, in an inexplicably feeble defence, to injury. Better??

If Trengove comes back in, the boys might be inspired and perform well, even then, I think it will take a fair bit of luck for the boys to snag the win.

Hawks have got A graders on every line.

For us to be a chance we're going to have to shutdown either Lewis or Mitchell in the guts and hope that Nev can curb Rioli a little.

I'm expecting it to be an extremely physical game as we attempt to match the pressure around the contest with the Hawks. For this reason alone I reckon we'll see more experience brought into this weeks team.

I've had a feeling for a few weeks that we'd win one of the Hawthorn games this year & Saturday will probably be the most likely of the 2 encounters. The Hawks were average against a side we belted by 10 goals the previous week playing average football.. 5 minutes into the last Brisbane were within a kick. The Hawks are there for the taking for the first time since we last beat them in 2006.

If Dawes AND frost come In I wld rathersee Watts play a bigger role there than Frost picket. Frost looks like a potential future forward but more like a dog with fleas down back

I reckon these changes are the general consensus on here for once, amiright?

Great to see Trenners back of course but Vanders too- I'm a big fan.

Best changes all season (unfortunate loss of Viney aside)

Will be interesting to see where Frost plays, and Im shocked to see Vanders back  already but very glad he is.

All good changes, although Harmes is a very lucky boy.

Clearly we've gone for the bigger bodies this week, with Trengove, Oliver and Vanders giving us extra size around the ball.  Dawes will take some pressure off Hogan and we will see how Frost goes in the defensive 50.  It can't be much worse than his efforts at the other end.

May have seen the last of Dunn and Grimes in an MFC jumper ... Newton and ANB have their work cut out as well if they want to stay on the list, though ANB has youth on his side.

A few others can consider themselves lucky.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
