Michie is a must. At least understands how the "diamond defence" is supposed to work. Was very unlucky to be dropped this week.

Agreed!! As soon as we lose everyone is too quick to jump on the bandwagon of who should be dropped. People are saying Dunn needs to come in just because of experience? If they can't see him playing a role in helping the team to a win he shouldn't come in. People saying Tyson should go out. At least he has some experience as well if we are wanting to go with experience over Hawthorn. Yes, he was terrible today but also not the only one who was. He is capable of a much better game and shouldn't be dropped off today's game. He missed last week with illness, do we actually know what the illness was yet? Didn't train Tuesday as far as I saw and then travelled up to Alice possibly a bit flat coming off illness. I doubt he will still be sick next weekend he has a weeks break before we play again and we play at home, so I'd be concerned if they played him this week but pulled him next week due to illness again. ANB also not great today but I think deserves another chance off the back of last week and VFL form. It's not a handful of players that are to blame for today, it's the team as a whole it really looked like all of them were missing in action today.

Also so agree on Harmes, Wagner etc. I think they look tired and the club needs to determine how they will manage our younger guys coming in to the bye. Petracca is going to be a gun. He's played a handful of games and is still finding his feet. He's missed a lot of footy. People saying Mccartin a better option, for us to be honest I don't think he is. The saints needed that and we didn't. I too believe petracca will be the better player. We also took some key forwards in last years draft, and of we are patient with him and he is given time to develop I think Weideman has the potential to be a much better player than Mccartin so I think we may have won that one.

Will be be interested to see what happens at match selection this week when the time comes!

Roos on the post game presser said he had to do a better job at selection. Surely this is just throwing a bone out to the press.

Does anyone really think they (match cttee) are that hopeless?

It's all just Roos taking the heat, isn't it...

I don't think  i have heard a coach say this so man times in one year.

Tyson was poor today but maybe not quite right yet after his illness. I wish he could regain his form of 2014 though. He had a great year but hasn't really come close since.

Pederson just has to come in I think. Not sure if injured or sick or dropped but I think he has been really missed.

I've got no idea why people think Frost would help. Showed next to nothing as a forward and has a lot to learn at Casey as a backman.

In: Oliver, Pederson, Trengove, Grimes

Out: Kent, BenKen, Harmes, Newton

Out:

Kent (no defensive pressur e and ccan't stick  a tackle. Also butchers shots on goal)

ANB: great VFL form has not transferred to AFL.

Oscar: doesn't need any explanation

 Wagner: not quite there yet

Newton: useless .  Offers nothing at the moment. No preseason. Under done.

Ins:

Oliver

Frost

Dawes

Trengove

Labumba

Dunn

Every time I time I see Garland on the team sheet I think tanking. He is easily the worst player in the comp. If he ever plays again I'm ripping up my membership.

IN: DAWES, TRENGOVE, OLIVER, WHITE

OUT: GARLAND, TYSON, NEWTON, KENT

Michie to come in if Viney gets a week.

OUT: Kennedy (inj), O. McDonald, Neal-Bullen, Newton (all omit)

Trenners to play if Viney gets suspended.

Don't think we need to bring in Dunn or Frost as Hawthorn play a smaller forward line.

TMac on the resting McEvoy/Ceglar, Garland on Gunston, Wagner on Scicily, Jetta on Rioli, Michie on Breust and Bugg special assignment on Poppy.

Curious on your reasons for Tyson going out over a few others who have had some poor weeks?

Also I know I'll get crucified for saying this as I too want him back, but is Hawthorn the best opposition to bring trenners in against? AFL will already be another step up in intensity and speed from VFL, so just wondering if opposition such as Hawthorn will be ideal? Just given what he's coming off. If he does play and doesn't have a major impact there better be no one on here calling for his head as well!

I was backing Garland to surge this week and remind why he has so much respect.  He should be traded, could be a solid player in a different team, a Bernie like trade.

Tyson isn't going out.

Kent needs to rise to expectations, no point dropping him for being Mr average.

Grimes must have earned his chance next week.  Newton out for him.

Garland on Gunston

Do we really want Gunston to beat Fanning's record? STOP THE TANKING.

Can White be elevated off the rookie list?

I think Trengove could do Kents role better. Kent seems to have lost his 1st 3 meters initial pace and Trengove seemed to have that when I saw him earlier this year.

He can lead intelligently and might be able to find a forward from 60 M out. Cant be much worse in any case.

He would also win in the defensive forward stakes.

I try to see what I read others find in OMac and will wait longer, I guess.

Tmac changes across goal and gives himself no favours by using his right leg closest to opposition, which marginalizes his opportunities. It is always a worry.

There has been a lot of commentary around the delisting of Junior McDonald and other oldies. Why, then are the same commentators not recommending that more old, experienced players should be in the team, showing the youngsters the way?

Because Junior was actually a leader.   Who are you comparing, Dunn?

I personally would've kept Dunn in the team, however.   The diamond defence is a bad joke that will be recalled on DL for years to come.

I wasn't comparing anyone in particular. Just experienced players. We even have a couple of premiership players.

What would you like us to explain? I assume you meant my bit on agreeing about not posting post 24 hours. Sometimes I just feel after a win we are all so positive and then the minute we have a loss or player has an off day we rip in to them and some people make comments that in another 24 hours they may reflect on when the initial anger of a loss has lowered a bit and realise perhaps they were a bit quick to jump. I love how passionate we all are and we want to see th club do well. I just look at how far we have come over the last few years and our list is getting to a great stage!

Maybe not so much people shouldn't post straight after as this is a supportive forum we can all let our feelings out on, maybe sometimes just reflect on all the negatives before we post them.

And on on the second bit you honestly don't think that Harmes and a few others may be starting to fatigue a bit? I think he has great potential along with other youngsters but may need to be managed a little bit at the moment. To me his poor decisions don't seem like bad decision making all the time, sometimes they strike me as a player who may be slightly mentally and physically fatigued. But only he would really know if he is or not

Garland just looks overwhelmed. He doesn't play like a player with almost 150 games experience. He lacks composure, aggression, urgency and any sort of respectable football IQ. He reminds me of the type of player that would dominate in VFL and win every award but wouldn't get a look in at most AFL clubs.

He just seems to me to be a "no other choice" sort of inclusion, and it tells. He just doesn't seem like he wants to be here. I get that he has a very soft, introverted personality but he seems to play with resentment, like as if he's only doing it because he *has* to.

He needs to go. He's done.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
