Very sad and worrying news for Roughy, his family and the club.

Hope he responds well to the treatment as is able to get back to full health.

seriously puts the whole game of football and our whole obsession on who re-signs or why Tmac can't kick a football into perspective.

Get well soon - good health is everything....

It's great the Fagan stated it was detected early. Get well Roughy.

Doesn't "Four time Premiership player" have a nice ring to it....that would be nice.

Some new drugs available for this, hope Roughy has access to them. Best of luck.

It's a worse than horrid disease! Good luck Roughy!

That is very sad news.

Brings back bad memories of Jimma - I hope that he has a better long term outcome.  A bugger of a disease and totally unpredictable.

Unfortunately though, sun protection is very much underrated especially amongst the "invincible young", but even when it is well followed there are failures.

Get well, Jarryd.

He lives just near me.  Top bloke and down to earth.  I have wished him well on behalf of all Demon supporters.  I tried to get him to consider joining the Dees, a couple of years back but he wouldn't even give it a second thought.  I wonder why?

One of the best blokes you're likely to meet! thoughts are with Roughy and his family!

Rangers are always under pressure in Australia. Our sun is lethal and getting moreso. 2 minutes in Melbourne sun and it starts to sting...

he should be ok

but i thought Jimma would beat it to...

One of the good guys. All the best.

Hawthorn being my least favorite team becomes irrelevant when I hear news like this. There are things bigger than football and this will be one of them,Get well soon Jarryd.

Hopefully he gets through it and can live a long and healthy life.

Bad news for the big rough.

Melanoma is one of the worst cancers. It is why early detection and treatment is so critical. However as BB has pointed out, new treatments are now available that will make a big difference to life expectancy.

Jordan Lewis was almost in tears tonight on 360 talking about it, was very upsetting to watch. Hopefully he will be ok considering they caught it so early. Good luck to him and his family.

Horrific news if it has spread to any internal organs. Good luck with your recovery Rough, fight this bastard and stay strong!

Not only has Roughy overcome his dreaded disease, and will be back playing football, he will also captain the Hawkes.  http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/comeback-kid-jarryd-roughead-to-captain-hawthorn-hawks-in-2017-20170119-gtv54f.html

It looked quite dire when he bowed out last year.  Getting well and getting fit are herculean efforts.  Good on him and I wish him well as Captain (except when they play the Dees).

I also hope he gets this: "I want to potentially live to be a dad or grandad..."   If there was ever a nice guy in football who deserved all that life has to offer, it is Roughy.

Edit: wondering if mods would like to change title of thread to include Roughy has made a comeback
