Just watched the game again (it was just as enjoyable second time around) and thought the same thing when the commentry names flashed up.

No forcing nicknames, no catch-phrases, it was actually a pleasant reminder of what commentary can (should) be like.

Watching the replay again and note that Jetta has won about 5 freekicks. He either drew them cleverly or won them by going hard at the contest. Love him.

How was the zero respect he showed Martin after the free kick deep in the back pocket. Just played on and waltzed around him like he wasn't there.

Ablett Jr is a pretty massive introvert which makes him an odd choice for captain.  When faced with the media he tends to shut down and go into robot mode.  The real question is whether there is any personality hidden away in there that pokes it head out when he's not in public?

1st quarter... horrible. 61 handballs. Garlands clanger was awwwful. Hogan being double teamed. We doninated the play but 2 goals down. 

2nd quarter. Gawn got on top. Forwards moving.  Jonesy leading the way. Lynch on top of Mcdonald.Kent puts us in front. 

3rd quarter. Viney Tyson Oliver Bugg Kennedy. Harmes. Vince. Hunt. Jones. Viney 2 ripping goals. We were destroying their mids. Pumping into our 50. Hogan and Watts held. Mids kicking goals. Wagner clanger was a downer.

4th quarter. Petraccccccccca goals. and again. Hunt running and tackling superb. Harmes on fire. Big Max almost BOG but misses goals. Mids dominant. Slack last 4 minutes gives Suns 2 late goals.

I haven't watched a replay

What happened to Jack Watts hardly saw him in the initial watching of the game. Was he well held or just had a down day?

He and Hoges will need to be up and about next week.

Watts played decoy most of the night. Both he and Hogan were well held/double teamed but both at times lead purely to create space. Was a good game from both for the team but not great for their stats.

I boarded a plan in Hanoi at half time. I had been watching the odds tumble in our favour and I mean tumble. Arrived in Ho Chi Minh  & couldn't believe the score. I then watched the highlights on AFL.com Happy days. Gawn is driving our renaissance, if we lose him we are in trouble. Go Deeeeees!

Both in a way sacrificed their attacking games for the team - well done both.

Two things that stood out for me in the match:

1) The amount of goals that were given-off / given away by players to their team mates.  Very often during the game players were taking possession of the ball in poitions where the goal was kick-able.  Instead they were giving off to team mates in better positions and making a certainty of it.  This is a sign of a team playing for each other and not for themselves.  

2) I don't mind our 'clash socks'

Not really,  the way we lost to the Saint's was more about how we played rather than what they did. We did push North to the limit also but under difficult  conditions  in Tassie.  The  Saints also had the advantage of playing at Doom & Gloom Stadium.

It's funny i took Spirits comments to mean our game against the saints wasn't too bad given they are a pretty good side as evidenced by them pushing the roos.

Maybe someone clever enough can do it.  I am playing it now in he background as I rewatch this amazing chase over and over again.

We could play it on the ground audio whenever Wagner gives chase - would haunt the opposition, and far better than that pathetic "music" played after every GCS goal up there.  

(I guess they need something fake to try to create an atmosphere for their faux team).

Interesting watching the highlights package - I know Hogan apparently had a fairly quiet game, but I did see at least 2 or 3 really strong tackles he laid in chains that led to our goals. Fantastic to see him impacting up on the flanks and the wings, even if that means he's perhaps not kicking as many goals one week and others are as a result. Good on him.

I have watched the replay a couple of times and each time i picked up on a few different things.

The games that Watts and Hogan played were significant and part of the reason we won so well. each of these players were targeted by the Suns and were double and sometimes tripled teamed to ensure they did not get ant chance of clean ball. To the credit of both of them they still managed to have a positive effect whenever the ball came into their sphere of influence. while Watts did not get a lot of the ball, when he did get it, his use of it was exceptional. His vision and the way he weights his kicks is lovely to watch. Hogan wants the ball and will move all over the ground to get a touch. his second and third efforts are great and a few of these lead to the ball staying in the forward 50.

In the midfield we have some real talent. Viney we all know about. To me he is not the most skillful player but he is one of the hardest players I have seen in a long time and his persistence to get the ball is something else. This season I have also noticed in broken play that he seems to be positioning himself a little better knowing that team mates will win the ball. What to say about Oliver? He is where the ball is. He gets his hands on it and gets it to a teammate and then moves to where to bell is next going to be. 18yo? if he builds his tank, develops the body and just continues to do what he is doing now for the next 10 years without improvement he will be a great.

Not about to go through every player but a special mention to Petracca. He did some excellent things on Saturday evening and will only get better. he has good hands a vision and knows where to move to. His second goal was a cracker.

In Hunt and Wagner we have a couple of players that give the Demons a real point of difference. With their speed off the mark from half back they are going to cause a lot of teams a lot of headaches.

In the last few seasons I have been existing on hope. this season, for the first time in a long time I have expectations.

These comments from first Burgan and then Roos in this article neatly sum up the point i was making about the importance of Hunt and Wagner for both the now and the future (ie that they were selected to increase our chances of winning now and for their development) and why Wagner was selected ahead of Grimes:
