I've never seen so many goals kicked with 3,4,5 forwards on 1 defender. I'm not sure whether there's something wrong with the plan or the application. I reckon it's probably the latter.

Hopefully the boys bounce back next week.

Strikes me as being a really really really bad plan.

YES.

People on here talking about winning 5 in a row, players talking about finals, the over-hyping of Truck's debut. Spelled trouble from the start. Excuses will include a short turnaround, inexperience, Etihad, blah, blah, blah, but again its COMPLACENCY. It's time to grow up and pull the proverbial head out of the backside. So, so disappointing but all too familiar.

You sir are 100 per cent on the money

This summarizes everything wrong with demonland.

What did people seriously expect!?!?!?

Its first game, nerves and speed of the game got to him early but he ended up with 16 disposals, 5 tackles and 3 goal assists.

I am not complaining and not writing him off. Just simply saying that it was an underwhelming debut. I'm sure he'll be a good player but I'm not sure that he deserved a game this week.

Yes.

He was the man for Riewoldt but he kept trying to delegate to H and even Jetta.Weak as pizz.

Dunn slow and reactionary.

H flakey and missed tackles.

Paul Roos - terrible game day coach.

I'm just astounded that we've managed to to win three games this year with such a terrible match day coach.

You weren't happy Biffen that Riewoldt was allowed 20 metres on his opponent throughout the game without the barest hint of a coaching move?

And they kept ignoring it until the game was over about  ten minutes into the last.

Are they kidding ?

This club is still a shamble with more experienced management.

thats all.

Not one to normally question the coaches as I don't know what they say to the players but when St.Kilda take 18 UNCONTESTED marks inside their forward 50 serious questions need to be asked. If it's not Beau Wilkes cutting us up then it's no namers like [censored] Membrey.

I see that as a problem with the high press today.  The coaches and players are on record as saying we are pushing higher up the ground to force turnovers in our half - it broke down big time today and allowed the Saints way too much space.  Full credit to them as it was clearly a plan of theirs and we didn't do enough to stop it.

Side note: Petracca super underwhelming

First game at this level, never even played a preseason game before.  What did you expect? I thought he showed a bit at least he got his hands on the footy and got to contests. He'll get better.

Rubbish, our best football this year clearly indicates our game plan is perfectly fine both offensively and defensively.

The real issue is why we can't execute it weekly.

Part of that is youth (our 22 players today are a year, on average, younger than St Kilda's) and inexperience (our 22 averaged 20 games fewer per player than theirs). Part of that is also our first 6-day break for the year.

Part of it is poor coaching, poor selection, and a lot of it is a group of players who still aren't at the required AFL level of consistency yet within themselves. I thought we were improving in all these areas this year but I guess not.

Yea a few youngins let us down but not as many as the seniors like Gawn, Tyson, Watts, pederson, garlett, kent lumumba

I thought he went okay but disposal at 63% efficiency is not good. In fact most of our players were under 80% which I consider is the pass mark at AFL level. He look like he tailed off pretty severely in the last quarter and a half. I think he had 3 touches in that time.

Firstly....never ever expect to win at this stadium.  The loss today was very very poor, back line totally rudderless, Reiwoldt did what he liked without any accountability.

watched it closely and many players looked slow, dropped their heads early, and just gave up.

very poor output with apologies to Hogan, Watts and Viney.

TMac - supposed to be the general in backline, he was pathetic today.  Consistency is bad among senior players, so can't expect much from new kids.

Roos is really a very non reactive match day coach. out of stubborness or just lack of ability, i dont know , but his refusal to adapt to the game unfolding in front of him has cost us many times now.

im not sure the players were to blame today. the game plan got carved up and without leadership from the box it left them unable to adapt and the carnage which ensued made it hard for the side to stay in the game.

an opposition side picking apart a game plan will make players look slow and reactionary. im not so keen to put all of this on the players to be honest. of course ill agree some more on field leadership will help but in a nutshell our game plan has been picked apart and no answers were provided to the players. hence so many lefft in "no mans land" on turnovers

Not surprised by the result .. Short week bewtween games & players got ahead of themselves .. It's the expected journey of a developing team..

Should forget saints lost by 3 pts to Hawks & should have won!

Some posters on Petracca FFs .. What are we expecting ftom a 1st gamer after knee reco??? Was never & shouldn't be expected to be a game changer ...

How the hell are we so inept as a club to have only one plan? There should always be a backup plan if the opposition have clearly negated your game plan IN QUARTER ONE.

That nothing changed through the entirety of the match is an indictment on our coaches. Especially when the Saints have had the wool on us for years now, it's pretty bloody obvious Richo has us worked out.

They were playing a loose man in their forward line.

I agree this week Saber.  When things started going south we weren't reactive enough and it got out of hand too quickly.  The coaches should have done something to rectify that.

The players need to take some blame though, as I'm sure they could have worked harder to close up the gaps and put more pressure on.  We allowed them too much easy ball and they certainly worked harder than we did.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
