It did cross my mind that it was a Roos rues, which serves multiple purposes, i.e. it's gentle on Oliver, they only want him out for a week, it was a very difficult selection week, it gives his body a freshen up.

There are lots of reasons to omit him under the guise of a "rest".

Yes there are, but I think this is a genuine rest.

I also think he will get another rest, at about the 2/3 mark of the season, if his form is holding and he is still in the side.

We overdid Gus last year and everyone knew it. We now have more talent, better development and a better understanding of the way young players should be looked after, in their first season.

Saw one of the coaches take Hunt aside and have a word too him, Hunt sat down and looked a bit upset, no idea what was said and not presuming anything , just looked as if it wasn't good news. Hunt then went too boundary and did a few runs by himself. First time ever at a Dee's training in Melb, Burleigh Heads a few years back only other time. Garlett looked fine. Tracca, wow, tree trunk legs, can't wait for his debut. Spencil looks ready as a backup for the bearded one, hopefully not required.

Still a long way too go but we look too finally be on the rite track. Very scarred as a Dee's supporter and will not predict anything for the future, been burnt too many times. At least we aren't favourites against the yellow stripe, tfft.

Unlikely that he would learn of being dropped after his first game, from anyone other than the Coach. More likely he was being told something about his game.

Hopefully not sook it up like many of his generation do when things are not handed to them.

Hopefully this is entirely tongue-in-cheek. I'm not usually reactive but find just the suggestion particularly insulting. A teenager working hard enough to reach the top of his draft class and then spending a year rehabbing a knee injury before missing out on selection is not a reasonable opportunity to take a swipe at an entire generation.

No Sympathy for Track here, he'd be playing if he wasn't silly and broke his toe, fantastic sign for the club that we're now capable of holding someone with his talent back, as much as i'm sure he's very unimpressed at the moment, there is a significant lesson there for everyone involved.

If Hunt received some "bad news", would imply ANB may be playing..?

Would be happy to see ANB play but Hunt shouldnt be dropped on last weeks effort. I get the feeling looking at his work that he's a long term prospect and could form a part of some great demon sides.

I love the wild imagination of some on here. One photo of Garland's arm around him and it's "he can sook off in to the VFL...", "he's probably ripping apart a yelliw pages" (?!) and even "his whole generation are sooks"!

More likely: he was told yesterday that he wouldn't play, Jeffy is fit, and ANB is the resting emergency, and all his attention and focus goes to the Casey game tomorrow night, just as it has every week so far. I know that probably isn't as exciting though.

Go to the footy!!!!  You can save the child's soul another day. Kidnap the priest.......... end of christening. No impediment to going to the footy then.

Christian was told exactly what the public was, he's the 23rd man, he'd play if Garlett didn't come up, Jeffy trained extremely well today and will play so Christian goes back to Casey and maybe next week, not the end of the world.

People are reading way too much into the team selections this week.

It has made me realise that I don't actually care who plays instead of who, I just want to win.

Nice. Sorry to go off topic but I've been waiting all week for a headline of "AFL to drop draws on Grand Final day". Apologies if this has already been published and I missed it.

Best off topic post in a while.

Billy and Joel weren't at training,  they were busy starting fires.

Yeah, the door's over there.  I'll graciously see myself through it.

Was sarcasm Time, They are lyrics from the same song he quoted. I don't mind Stuie, we have our disagreements but he stands by what he says and that is fine by me.

Well if we all thought selection was going to be interesting this week. What about next week?  CP5 will be banging the door down and probably won't be ignored. Clarry will have had his week off. One is a half forward/midfielder the other is a midfielder. So you wouldn't think someone like a Hunt or Wagner would make way as they're not playing in the same position. So who is going to make way. I would have to say that thus far Brayshaw has been very underwhelming. Unless he lifts his performance considerably this week he could be one. Maybe Harmesy will get a break. It's going to be a very interesting selection meeting.

Of course, if we lose against Richmond I'm sure Demonlanders will find no shortage of players to demote, along with Paul Roos, Dave Misson and even Saty.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
