I would defiantly leave Gus at Casey for now, after that Essendon match, 1 Casey game isn't going to build his match fitness.

Only if fully fit does Garlett come back in, if there is any doubt then give it another week, we do not need him to re-injure that ankle.

If he is fit then i would be dropping young Stretch, was monstered a lot yesterday by much older bodies and just doesn't look quite at AFL pace yet, but he will get there, just not regularly this year.

If the coaches see something in Frosty being a forward I have to trust them.  You would think they know what they are doing, and 1 week i 1 week out isn;t going to help his confidence in the role that the coaches are expecting him to play, although he is very good at dragging a defender away for the real contest!

In; Garlett

Out: Stretch

A key factor in determining who comes in is how quickly the young mids already in the team can build their engines

Against North the players with the least game time were Wagner (63% - 1st game), Oliver (65% - 3rd game), Tyson (68%) and Harmes (71%). These players would ideally be building to 80% (where Viney, Vince Vandenberg, etc are). Until they can play at that level of game time there's a limit to how many young players (especially mids) we can add to the team.

Hence, the realisation of the Brayshaw error Vs Dons, and why Petracca and Trenners will be need to be playing 80+% game time at VFL before they can even be considered, as we simply can't afford to rest them along side those kids already in the team.

I hope there is a burning desire within the playing group to beat Collingwood this weekend and not a reliance on Pies playing poorly. Lesson's need to be learnt from the Essendon game.

Not so much on this page - but there's a lot of support for ANB to come into the team.  Can someone explain why?  I don't have a view on him either way - simply curious why so many are keen on him.

As for changes - suspect they'll be kept to a minimum - ie only changes will be based on what's happening with Garlett and Vince.

36 possessions & two goals a fortnight ago, followed by a near BOG match for Casey Saturday Night.

Has shown he has good goal awarness and is an elite runner.  Watched him closely Saturday Night, and while his hands in close are very good, he showed an improved ability to also get the ball on the outside and generate some run, despite the fact he isn't super fast.

Think he's going to be a very good player. Said in my run down on Saturday Night that I see a lot of Robert Harvey in the way he goes about things.  Lets hope he's half as good.

Agree with Bugg. Can't see Stretch being dropped after one game. Did a lot in close IMO. We need runners, and he's one.

I agree stretch gives us run but i also feel he is a step or 2 off AFL level maybe a couple of months at Casey and he can play some games later in the year. He will get there but im not sure he is quite ready. Bugg is on very thin ice but i think he did a little better this week. Was it enough to keep his spot? maybe, but with Brayshaw, ANB and Petracca all looking to get spots over the next month or so he might be in trouble.

Pies are going to get kicked in the media all week and will expect to beat us...

Of course. They are favourites.

I dont like the idea of them being beaten up by the media... dont like playing sides coming hard on the rebound... and assuming richmond lose to WC they will cop it just as much the next week. Couple of very big tests coming up... should be able to win both but neither are going to be easy.

Not sure why they would expect to beat us it was one all last year and we only lost the second game because we could not kick straight and Cloke had his game of the year.

Dees will win this no matter what the press says

Tom McDonald.......I hope he's still stinging from the job Cloke did last year.

Great way to reward a competitive team effort!

I'd also consider Brayshaw in for Bugg.

Are you serious? Competetive Team efforts should equate to 4 quarter efforts not just 2 quarters. In case you missed it we lost!

I'm picking on form and also with the view of what type of side will beat Collingwood. I would have no hesitation making these changes!

Couple of good works of really good form. He's quick and can find the goals. I would have had him in against North to replace Garlett as he can be a bit of a goal sneak/crumber.

That's an interesting comment, because I often find ANB to be quite one-paced. That's okay, but I just have never viewed him as quick. Even in the game down at the Cattery, he didn't show pace for me that day, just smarts and got in the right position and his opponent paid him little respect.

I guess by quick I mean to me he has quick reflexes and is willing to run, which probably explains my perception of him as "quick" when compared to a fair few of his team mates.

Wouldn't change much and most certainly wouldn't drop Wagner after one game.

I'm not sure if it's just me but I think the Wagner call up was a direct indicator as to how dysfunctional our back-line as a whole have been rather than a direct replacement for a player. He brings an entirely different set of attributes to that of Garland and frankly, those attributes are the ones we are so sorely lacking back there. Considering Garland was offering literally nothing offensively to our side and his defensive efforts were less than impressive, it makes sense that Wagner now gets a run at it. I think we'll see the value of him after a few games and potentially this weekend at the G. He will create and he will defend hard.

Ins: Garlett

Outs: Matt Jones

I know it won't happen, but I see Stretch as someone who can play the same role now that he's in the side.

EDIT* On second thoughts, Jones has been pretty solid to date. Hard to know who comes out. But we need Garlett in the side so someone will be unlucky.

ABN BOG 2 weeks running in the VFL but Wagner gets a game last week. Makes no sense.

Anyway, ABN deserves a game. Garlett an automatic in. Pederson better than Frost as backup ruck option. What happens to us if god forbids Gawn is injured. Who rucks?

Haven't seen the game so I can't comment on outs accept Vince.

Some people obviously don't watch or go to games and just pick the same names every time...

M.Jones - 22 disposals, 4 marks, 6 clearances, 3 inside 50s, 64% DE.

Had a better game than Stretch, our captain, Tyson, Kennedy and a whole bunch of others.

But obviously he's your new whipping boy.

Fortunately, Roos disagrees with your bias.

Haha.

Christ you get on your high-horse easily. Go back and read my post, I edited it.

It's more about the value of Garlett in this situation. He will come in for somebody.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
