GAMEDAY - Round 3, 2016

Attack the ball, apply pressure and tackle hard. When we don't do any of these things we lose. Do these, and we're in with a chance.

I think the big question that needs to be answered is, does Drew Petrie have the biggest melon in the AFL?

Travis Cloke?

Will be steering clear of this thread during the game.  Had enough of the usual crud that fills it up over the course of a few hours.  I think it will raise my enjoyment of the game and lower the annoyance levels in a big way.

I think we'll have a fair dinkum crack today but ultimately fall short.  Their tall forwards worry me.

Edit - I think we need 2 game day threads; the usual one and one where only positive comments are welcome.  If someone does something terrific then jump in their and post.  It may have way less than the main game day thread but it might lighten the mood and cancel out the negativity.

I second Wiseblood's idea of two threads. Something like 'The Stands' and the 'Coach's Box'. One for shouting and cheering and one for analysis to discuss tactics, statistics, suggested positional changes etc.

A 'Bay 13' and the 'Long Room' perhaps....

Nice idea Jako and Skuit.

I don't want to stop anyone from venting their frustration as everyone is entitled to it, but it gets monotonous when we make a turnover and you need to sift through a page of people posting the same stuff over and over again.  Being able to go into another thread just dedicated to some of the good plays during the day, or looking at the positives, would be a welcome change.

It's just an idea though.

I get where you are coming from mate, but a censored thread is not really much use

"Go number 13..."

i rather know what is really unfolding. However harsh it is..

Surely you can filter WB?

I suggested 2 threads, the normal one and the other one I mentioned.  I'm not trying to change anything for anyone, just adding another thread.  If it's rubbish or not do-able then it doesn't happen, no drama for me.

If North kick a couple of goals in a row, and there is a turnover or two in there, it's like sifting through a sewer of garbage to get to anything decent.

But again, it's only a small suggestion.  I'll live if it doesn't happen and no-one else is interested.

Great idea guys, A thread where only nice things are said and everyone gets a gold star for turning up.

Its just like university these days where comments and discussion are forbidden unless you agree with leftwing groupthink.

Enjoy your new thread.

Just having a look at our record in the games immediately following last year's embarrassing/disgraceful losses:

Last year, the week after we lost to Hawthorn by 100+ points, we beat the Dogs.

The game after we lost to St Kilda in the dying seconds, we beat Geelong in Geelong.

The week after we lost to Essendon, we beat Brisbane (albeit playing poorly still).

The week after we lost to St Kilda the second time (at the G) we then beat Collingwood.

The week after we lost to Carlton, we lost to Fremantle in Perth.

So that's 3 wins, 2 losses in five of our worse performances last year. Three of our better wins (Dogs, Geelong, Collingwood) came the week after a shocker, too.

I think you need to go back to uni as your comprehension skills need a little a little extra work.

This thread is here for normal discussion, I just suggested having another that focused on some positive discussion so you don't need to sift through the other stuff. I'm not trying to silence anyone,  far from it, just thought an extra alternative to this thread might suit a few posters. If it doesn't then that's fine.

My suggestion was two threads with different intents regardless of perspective. Nothing to do with censorship. Even when positive events occur during the match there may be 40 'Goal Hogan!' posts to scroll through in search of some possible insight on the structures that led to the goal.

i used to marvel at the single mothers at my uni who somehow found the time to earn their degrees. But university and an extra-curricular commitment to Demonland? I tip my hat.

Veteran Demonland Trackwatchers Kev Martin, Slartibartfast & Demon Wheels were on hand at Gosch's Paddock to kick off the official first training session for the 1st to 4th year players with a few elder statesmen in attendance as well. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. 2024 Player Reviews: #31 Bayley Fritsch

Once again the club’s top goal scorer but he had a few uncharacteristic flat spots during the season and the club will be looking for much better from him in 2025. After sustaining a torn ACL in the final match of the 2023 season Jake added a bit to the attack late in the 2024 season upon his return. He has re-signed on to the Demons for 1 more season in 2025. Date of Birth: 12 August 1991 Height: 186cm Games MFC 2024: 8 Career Total: 229 Goals MFC 2024: 8 Career Total: 188

2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. The first round draft pick at #13 from twelve months ago the strongly built medium forward has had an impressive introduction to AFL football and is expected to spend more midfield moments as his career progresses.
