Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Why has none of our coaches taught our players about SPREAD! Our players don't seem to be able to spread out like other teams. Our players don't seem to be able to stick like glue to other teams' players because they don't understand the other team is spreading and then getting the ball out into space away from the packs.

They've definitely been taught to spread. Our players didn't bring the work rate.

He won't be as good, because he was unlucky enough enough to be drafted to the one club that hasn't got the foggiest idea of how to produce an elite player. FCS it has been what 20-30 years since we have done so and we've had top shelf draft talent the majority of the time

I have no concern with our development team. In fact, it's arguably the standout attraction of our club to prospective players. I've no doubt Oliver will be as good, if not better than Parish.

Exactly, the entire mindset today was braindead. All we had to do the entire day was attack, attack, attack. Their total lack of structure would've killed them with an inability to defend.

But no, clearly that was too [censored] obvious a plan.

Nah we are too easy to DEFEND Saber for any "attack attack attack" to work to our advantage against most clubs at the moment.

That constant bombing long to the square is just too predictable. Draws most opponents like a bear to honey and creates a bloody mosh pit of horror that is very hard to create goals out of. Only a huge pack marking forward (Locket/Reiwoldt/Carey) at his best or over the top mark (from side or behind) like Howe/Fasolo/Hart etc would/could benefit from such a horrible entry method. Once in a while we get a fast break for jeffy out the back (or in today's game Clarry after one fairly quick entry by Jones from the middle in the last). But too rare to worry any opponents or win a match with.

Add to that the fact that our forwards refuse to lead up often enough/double back etc (work rate) and create space behind for others to lead into/or double back into (or take marks up the ground when team mates are under pressure by working hard on the lead higher up the ground/in front of defender). Add to that our pretty average ability to hit targets coming i50 when they do lead (ie., we mostly don't and turn the ball over straight to the opposition who then run it out quickly for the rebound/see TMacs horrible lack of awareness when tackled from behind in the 2nd today around the 50 meter arc after deciding to play on...which he does far too often no matter where/what stage of the game he is in) and you have yourself a recipe for more horrible losses no matter the quality of the opposition.

Most of this all comes about through lack of work rate/effort through the middle and up forward and to a fair degree a lack of confidence in hitting targets due to our poor disposal skills by foot generally speaking.

I wish i had $10 today for every panick bomb that went long to a crowded square hoping for the best (last week included!!)

Oliver got the rising star nomination last week and now expert posters saying we should have taken Parish because of today's game.

Classic.

Demonland at it's finest.

I think it was dazzle who made the comment that Gawn was now 'lazy' after signing a juicy contract, or something like that.  Supporters on here go loopy after a loss.

Round 2 and it's already season over for

Freo if they loose tonight

Port??

Only 2 (3 if Freo don't come back) of those teams are 0-2 after 2 rounds. Bit early to say season over for all of them.

Sadly our players do not know how to count, otherwise they would not be kicking it so often to contests where there are two or three opposition players to our one. unfortunately that's what we do from kickouts and into the forward line. It is demoralising to see players blindly kick it in directly to an opposition players who marks uncontested. The best teams apply pressure, you apply pressure by tackling the hell out of them everytime they get the ball, our players instead run beside opposition players trying to corral them, the spectre of bruise free football still lingers. and we don't cope well with opposition teams using their spare player to create overlaps as our spare player is usually sitting deep down in the backline.

Not to mention Roos not mentioning anything about the turnovers and lack of effort and desire. Blaming it on being "tired". How can you be tired, we in round [censored] 2!!! Must change things. Please play Petracca and Trengove next week. Drop Harmes, Tyson, Garland. Even Hoges, although they wouldn't drop the genius, once in a lifetime, wonderboy, great white hope forward

Well it's been a long train ride home down the Gippsland line so it given me plenty of time to think about disgrace that was served up today.

what I have discovered is that after 10 years of the same old Melbourne Football Club [censored], it doesn't even hurt anymore.  I'm so used to being disappointed that I don't even care.  It's just another typical week of a Demons supporter. Happy if they win, but a loss is just water off a ducks back now.

On the game it's self though, what a pathetic attempt at a football game that was.  Hogan might be a laziest forward I've ever seen. He doesn't lead, he doesn't chase, he doesn't tackle, he doesn't actually compete in the air.  If it doesn't come to him by butler service he just cracks the sads, throws his arms out and watches the ball race away.  He's playing like an entitled rich kid who thinks the world revolves around him.

McDonald is a decent defender but when the balls in his hands he can't make a decision if his life depends on it.  He doesn't know when to take off and run, hand pass it off or just kick the thing out of there!  I said it in the match day thread. He and Garland couldn't seem to decide who was playing on Daniher, half the time it came in and he was playing on Bugg or Jetta.

Lumumba is a backman who didn't lay a single tackle, all he did was run into trouble.  Oliver was left hung out to dry by his more senior team mates. It's the kids second game, he shouldn't be trying to do it all! Kent did nothing all day. Watts was as lazy and half hearted as ever. Gawn was hardly sighted outside of a ball up and when did win them they went to nowhere. Brayshaw was clearly underdone and probably should not have been selected, not really his fault but if you put your hand up to play then you gotta be ready to go.

Paul Roos looked like he was on the phone to his nana all day in the box.

Garlett and Kennedy were pretty much it today and jeffy only had 6 touches.

hmmm maybe it does still hurt

According to one of the commentators last night, apparently only 2 sides who started the season 0-2 have made the finals in the last 41 years, and one of those sides was Carlton when Essendon were disqualified.

At the moment that is only Brisbane, and it looks like St Kilda and Freo might be added tonight.

It's stupid to say a side who is 1-1 is season over. So much can happen over a 22 week season.

Logic is not your strong point - we must change things, so you want to bring in blokes who are still lacking in match fitness.  Superb thinking.

Not it's not, yes I appreciate a lot can happen but there are trends appearing already which are a continuation from last year.

Roos spoke about the players getting ahead of themselves, maybe the coaches are guilty of this.

Is this a serious question??

Yes. Every year the pre-season is 4-5 months, and every year some clubs come out firing and some clubs come out flat. I'm not sure what your point is.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
