Thought the same thing. Wonder how Howe feels? In the doghouse with his coach and his teammates serve up this rubbish for round one.

Hope he feels useless, mercenary, stupid and like quitting.

Good to see Tom Papley play well for sydney last night.

Tom played a couple of games for Casey Scorpions last year as a too up 23rd player and reports were that he didn't look out of place.

Franklin 4.1, Tippett 0.1. Easy to see which one they got their $1M value for.

Interesting (after today's match) to see the two Collingwood players with the greatest disposals were both traded from GWS!

CBDees do you know when Sydney's COLA is finally phased out?

Tippet is overhyped and overpaid and has yet to gel with Buddy. If Sydney had their time again they would of shipped of Tippet and kept the Mummy.

There was a little bit of sarcasm there hardtack, but yes, they do look scary good.  Their running game and pressure has been superb so far, Dockers can't cope.

I thought that was the case :-). Not a bad effort to keep the Dockers goalless for the first quarter, and they look like they're not taking the foot off the pedal in the second.

Stringer is a gun but FMD he's selfish and arrogant; burns his teammates all day long. It's no wonder how he regularly scores 4 or 5 goals.

Got a lot of Stevie J about him... hopefully not the Premiership Player part though.

North Melbourne, who played in preliminary finals last year and are supposedly in "contention" this year could only manage just over 25,000 to their game against Adelaide.

We had over 28,000 against GWS!

And that would have included a lot of Norf flogs who have 3 or 4 memberships (from when they were meant to go to the Gold Coast) scanning the lot as they go through the gate.

Bulldogs bandwagon seems to have gathered a lot more going by today's crowd.

I was wrong about Collingwood.

Not sure Jeremy Cameron is feeling so smug now.

Tigers are a mess.

Did not see them outclassing Freo like this. Thought Freo would win for sure.

Lots to learn from Round 1 so far. Sadly, Sydney's gifted Academy youth will produce one of the game's best midfields within a few seasons. Dogs look like the new Hawks. Not convinced by the Cats but we'll have to see how that plays out tomorrow.

Richmond, Fremantle and Collingwood appear to be going nowhere. Not convinced by Richmond's win, especially.

Freo are slow though, and when their defensive game doesn't work it highlights how poor their forward line is.  You can understand why they've chased every quality tall forward under the sun for the last 5-6 years as the quality down there is minimal.

And Ross Lyon doesn't have the patience to rebuild through the draft. They're just treading water under him, albeit very close to the shoreline.

Yep, good point.  They are missing a couple of players today but the Dogs are making them look distinctly average.

It is Round 1 after all though, plenty of water left to go under the bridge.

They've never drawn big crowds even in their dominant period in the mid to late 90s

When we're on again and contending in finals we will pull big crowds regularly

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
