I won't link to the article right now as it's behind the HUN paywall, but he's certainly made some interesting calls with it.

The only Melbourne player on the list is... Jesse Hogan, who is at #46.  Got in ahead of Jones (who he listed as unlucky) and Vince, who didn't get a mention at all.

His Top 10 was:

Ablett, Fyfe, Dangerfield, Mitchell, Franklin, Goldstein, J. Kennedy (Eagles), Hodge, Pendlebury, Stringer.

The other thing I found interesting was that, behind Hawthorn, who had 8 players, Richmond were the next best with 5 players named.

I'll try and post the rest of the list later today unless someone else does it before me.

Edit - And yes, I know it's just a list, and I know Robbo is a bit of a [censored], but it's worth the discussion.

Franklin doesn't deserve top 10 based on output if that's the main kpi.

He's slipped considerably in my opinion and would be around the 25 to 30 range.

I've looked at the Top 50 every year out of curiosity.  Based on the order some years I have to ask whether the rankings are based upon a career's reputation, the past year's stats, or what they think the player's acievements and impact will be in the upcoming season.

*I haven't perused this year's Top 50

Who are the 5 Tigers?  Cotchin, Deledio, Rance, Riewoldt, Martin presumably..  I have to confess to a major blind spot when it comes to RFC....maybe it's because we regularly beat them.  But for mine Cotchin's failures in big games and regular ability to butcher the ball under pressure rule him out of something like a top 50.   Dusty's lack of discipline at critical junctures has cost them dearly over the journey.  Rance I can live with but the "Rance moments" weren't that far back in his career so I'll be watching him closely this year.   Riewoldt's much lauded move up the ground last year may have seen a more team oriented approach but the fact is his output was down on prior seasons.  Deledio...probably the pick of the 5 and worthy....

Stringer in top 10 is a big call. Also agree about Franklin, he has dropped.

The media absolutely love 'The Package'. Good player in the making but by no means deserving of a place in the top 10. Jones and Vince very stiff.

After this season, Viney will be top 30.

Agree on both.  I think Stringer is Top 50, but not in the Top 10.  Lots of players with consistent runs on the board that were overlooked for him.

Buddy is the same.  Top 50 for sure, but not that high.  Who knows if he'll be the same player?

I think those five tigers are worthy of top 50 status. It's depth that has always hurt the tiges. Nathan Jones is very stiff not to make it, even with the slightly down year he had.

I assume you've just made a point.  I have no idea what it is.

And I haven't seen the list or read the article.

I have no problem with there being no Dees, but that list has some extraordinary inclusions.

Good Slapstick Humour

Luke Bruest at 50 is better than at least 30% of those above him.

I must admit the first thing I looked for was where he had placed any (playing) Bombers players. I was surprised to not see any there. Thought he might have snuck a Goddard or Daniher in there somewhere.

That list is laugh out loud funny :)

Montagna at 17 and Goddard still playing for St Kilda. Someone needs to tell Karl what year it is.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
