Does anyone know why Jesse even had a media interview?

Surely, it wasn't to whack a club great, the Ox?  It wasn't to discuss his contract, per se.  And surely, we wouldn't roll him out to defend himself on one poor practice game?  Not sure we would ever want to roll out a young player to defend themselves anyway...we have coaches and captains to defend them.

The interview topics seemed to be a bit all over the place!

I am at a loss to work out what benefit it was to Jesse or the club.

Maybe so he's quoted in the Herald Sun tomorrow which is meant to be some sort of MFC membership day.

Can I give a view from a PR perspective. I think it was quite smart of the club to trot JH out at this stage.

1. he had a poor last NAB cup game and needed to "clear the air";

2. he had been under attack from one of the club's all time great forwards, appropriately, with considerable wit, defended himself and if anything added to his attractiveness as a footballer; and

3. speculation continues as to his future, and he managed not only to clarify his thinking, but at the same time declare his excitement about the club and his commitment to it.

Well handled by the club and Hogan I would say.

On the other hand, just "feeding the chooks".

The media have been saying all day that Jesse handled it poorly, and should have been more gracious.

I really can't stand the football media in this town.....biggest bunch of richeous, egotistical, negative twits of all time.

i loved the good old days of guys like Alf Potter and Harry Beitzel and co who's love of footy came first, these days you'd swear they were trying to put people off it.

Agree totally. Why bother all. I hope Hogan gets back to playing good footy and ditch the Prima Donna stuff.

Maybe just to address the rubbish, over the top critisism that's coming on the back of one average game.. Poor Jesse cops it worse than Jack Watts does, two yaers left on his contract and far more strong speculation about him then any other player out of contract this year.

Poor Jesse ?  I think he'll survive.

He doesn't live in the microcosm of Demonland.

Btw, he's lauded and hasn't suffered 1% of the treatment Watts has.

It's MFC membership day on SEN tomorrow. Paul Roos is being interviewed and probably others during the day.

I'm sure he will, and i agree but i think you've missed the point.

Cale Hooker and Michael Hurley are AA defenders who have both been linked to moves to other clubs but that doesn't get anywhere near the attention Jesse does, even thought they're OOC this year, not next. it's ridiculous.

They told a story on mmm yesterday where they said that Goodwin arranged for Hogan to have a coffee with Wayne Carey just to get some pointers and any assistance on playing forward and when they hopped back in the car Hogan turned to Goodwin and said gee he knows a bit about playing centre half forward didnt he, in other words Hogan had no idea how good Carey was. Maybe he was a bit isolated in Perth and he wasnt born when Carey started.

anyway I hope the journos stop asking about the contract because as he rightly pointed out he still has 2 seasons to go.

Media ?

Ex disgraced sports administrator Brian Waldron, complete [censored] Mark Allen and Harford ?  Were there any more ?

I wouldn't be too perturbed.

what's happening now is the ridiculous over-saturation, scrutiny and sensationalism that comes part-and-parcel with being a genuine top shelf, A-grade player

this is uncharted territory for us

I say let them talk as much as they want, even if it's negative. All it does is shine a light on the club and boost the profile of Hogan, ultimately increasing the number of people who will watch him play footy

Hooker and Hurley will fit in with us rather fresh and well in 2017. As an offset, Roos might be considering his position next year as well. They have paid their dues and deserve another chance in life as per Melksham does. Amazing what a worthy destination we have now become.

Well, this is what we want.

"The only thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about."

Collingwood fans, more than anyone else, are used to this.

This is a sign that we are becoming relevant. Embrace it.

With a bit of luck, we will become increasingly tired of the incessant chatter about these Demons who just keep winning games and staying in the public eye. Go Demons!

It would be interesting to know who's idea it was to have this presser. On the one hand I thought it was good he was getting on the front foot and hitting back, also asking a few questions about his future and how he feels about the club. The bites that the media have taken make him come across as arrogant, and maybe there is a little bit of that, but I don't think The Ox's comments were totally wrong. It's an area of his game that isn't quite right and I would think he would look to correct that for his sake and the teams.

Who was the Melbourne female player who had that iconic photo of the perfect kicking action, maybe get her to give him lessons!

1) If you're brought up in Perth you know who Carey is especially with the great Jakovich v Carey duels over many years

2) If your family originally hail from Adelaide and you were a Crows fan growing up(as Jesse was) i'd say you know who Carey was

Watching footage is one thing, but actually sitting down and talking with greats of the game, getting their insight is entirely different

Anyone notice how quiet Hogans voice went with the contract questions? Once he finished with that and started chatting footy  his voice got stronger again. I dont know what hes thinking but he is absolutely uncomfortable with that subject. it was very obvious. Maybe he just doesn't like discussing contracts

I reckon that's spot on. He's a footy player and loves the game, it's what he knows and what he can talk about.

If you stick me in front of a bunch of cameras and reporters asking me about how I'm going to ask my boss for a raise or go somewhere else and I'd be a bit nervous too.

He's what, 21? And looks uncomfortable talking on camera about the possibility of earning millions of dollars. Shocking.

I thought they missed the obvious marketing opportunity to set up a goal kicking shoot out between Hoges and The Ox at the G or at Gosch's after training for the TV news and in time for today's membership drive. I am sure the Ox would have been up for a bit of fun and attention.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
