A bit like Captain Blood toward the end. He kept muddling players names and mangling the language all at the same time but it was radio and we loved it as I remember?

I am astounded today we won against the saints at the dome of death and we won all three of our games and yet this thread about a commentator gets two pages!

Get excited on the game thread guys we are heading into a season for the first time in a decade where we expect to win games instead of hoping the losing margin will be less than ten goals.

I don't care what Roberts says.

We won again for Gods sake!

Sandy seems like a nice old bloke and I have a soft spot for the old-fashioned showman-type commentator, but I reckon he's past it. Calling Vince, McDonald was particularly memorable.

Old Jack was entertaining - Sandy isn't.

The lack of up & coming commentating talent means that hopeless geriatrics like Macavaney, Commetti and Roberts have been around torturing us for far far too long.

If fate hadn't intervened, we'd have been blessed with Clinton Grybas instead of one of these blokes.

Roberts is by far the worst.

Don't be so hard on him. Like I said in the gameday thread - at least he never called Jetta as Oliver or vice versa.

He did confuse Max Gawn with Grimes - I guess they are pretty similar.....if you are blind, blind drunk, or don't care.  Two arms, two legs, same team jumper...little else.

Have I said anything that is in correct Steve?

No mate. It's just you usually call this time of year "dancing with your sister."

Uncharacteristically positive view.

This year Steve your sister looks like she means business.

Well, we Demons have got to have something to whine about. When the team is winning, we pick on the commentators. Simple!

After today's display I don't think Sandy would even know who he supports.

Brilliant^

It might be a practice game for the commentators, sure, but he did the same thing all last year too. The guy is a dinosaur with the memory of a 90 year old goldfish.

I could never stand the bloke, I remember watching the Atlanta Olympics late one night and he thought he was off air, went to rip absolute shreds off some poor bastard, who probably forgot to put coffee in his whiskey. The look on his face was pure hatred and disgust. Pr/ck.

Nathan Brown? Shades of Basil Zemplias calling Jeff Garlett Aaron Davey last year.

I like the idea of a Sandy story page. Any funny Sandy stories or urban myths that could be attributed to the man, please leave here.

I'll play. He's so bad with names he once introduced himself at a party as Dennis Cometti.

I believe that Sandy Brown had a terrible call today...

About the only thing he got right was counting the amount of shots that hit the post!

It was actually so annoying that I turned the commentary off.... as I believe it is disrespectful to the players.

If I went in to the office and ran around calling everyone the wrong name I would have questions asked... and I expect the same will happen with Sandy Hook.

Had it in mind to start a thread (beaten to it).

My highlight was when he called Ben Kennedy "Garlett".

Honestly, why do we need to hear from him again? Its not like he is adding to the coverage.

Called Kennedy Garlett for goodness sake !!  To be fair I find it hard to distinguish between Kennedy and Garlett. Could be twins !!!!  Sandy, go home and have a nice cup of tea.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
