Intresting to see who plays this week.

Oliver? Lumumba? ANB? O.Mac?

Doesn't look like Weed or Hulett will be getting a gig

we'll wait and see. Game starts at 4:10pm at Etihad.

First game of the 3 I will be able to watch.

No excuses with the wind at Docklands.

Need to start the game with some real purpose. Would like to see us hit the lead early and maintain it throughout the game.

Saints 2nd game cancelled last week so they will have a strong side, as mentioned earlier in the week Roo might be on a wing and Joey off a back flank.

Can't wait.

I thought Ed demolished Etihad?

Hopefully see some cleaner passages of play and an increase in skills this game.

Read somewhere that the Saints are doing a massive week of training this week to prepare for round 1, so expecting them to be pretty flat for this game.

only a praccy match but it will be telling how we use the ball at etihad and how our skills look.  we've had 2 hit outs to blow out the cobwebs

will also be interesting to see us having to stick to 90 rotations and how our fitness looks against the saints.

Hogan will come back in, wouldn't think they will be too many other first 22 players left out of the side as we'll have 2 weeks to rest up.

Carn the Dees!

Not expecting Dunn or vandenBerg to play given their injuries during the previous round.

Am hoping to see a really competitive hit out given the Saints missed out on a match last round.

They're more experienced but a bit like us - they can compete against most sides when they're up and about, but if they're off their game they're not quite right.

Their experienced players are obviously significantly better than ours, with several 30+ veterans continuing to be core to their side.

I think they're a side that is very, very hard to get a read on in 2016.

ANB is not getting much of a run, have heard very little of him over the preseason. Any news on where he is at, have I missed an injury he has been coming back from?

This really begs the question as to what's the issue with ANB?  He's not been mentioned in despatches in terms of any of the injury updates and made the NAB 1/2 initial squads.  His form last year would've warranted some NAB game time in the normal course of events.  What's the story?

Think I saw someone saw he was on crutches at the season launch. Nothing serious but I guess he hasn't been able to complete all the training and therefore hasn't warranted a NAB game. Speculating on my part, perhaps someone who has been to training could comment....

However, in the final week, only six players will be allowed on the bench with a cap of 90 rotations

So 3 guys will probably start off at Casey and the interchange rotations will be interesting to watch.

This round gets closer to real season.  Six player bench but only 90 i/changes.

NAB 1 was about 120 i/c (on a hot day on a big oval).

NAB 2 i/c were 'closer to match conditions' (Viney interview) but don't know how many.

NAB 3 will be 90 rotations (in mild conditions).

Whether we have a 4 or 6 bench, 90 will be a good guide to our stamina.

I'm not fussed about the result  - just hope for a good work out, that we play the game out, not run out of puff and no injuries on an surface that has never been kind to us.

ps would be rapt if we also win...

Nothing else matters being satisfied with losses should be  consigned to every MFC supporters bin.

Not at all satisfied with a loss od.  Just saying there are other goals in NAB games.

Obviously from NAB 1 and 2 there are parts of our game/team that are just not working.  NAB 3 is a chance to try ideas out and wear the consequences. eg I wouldn't mind seeing different structures tried in our backline to protect against and minimise turnovers close to their goal.

If we take a 'win at all costs' approach for a NAB game we miss the opportunity to fine tune our game/team.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
