If Tommy wants the big bucks and wants to be one of the best, he needs to work on his faults.

or he can skidaddle off to a club less picky.  GC probably desperate...have the cash.

I trust the club to value Tmac exactly where he ought to be.   Im not sure the club signs all the right people  but they seem to get valuations close to right

Yep, I'll take GC's 2016 1st round pick in return...top 5 pick.  Even get back our own 2016 1st rounder we traded away...around pick 10 (allowing for Academy picks)! Ok I'm dreaming!  TMc swap for Prestia.  Ok I'm still dreaming!

If this is a game of brinkmanship I don't think it will be the club that blinks!  We have become very good poker players!!

And he may do that bb.

GCS are not as bad as this years results suggest they have a long injury list.

I guess we know why Roos is pursuing with the likes of Omac, Wagner and Hunt, in the same way he pushed Frawley forward: preparing for the worst.

Ummm no... Frawley was played up forward, TMac is still holding the most important position in our backline every single week. Totally different.

If anything, playing OMac is probably a way to keep TMac engaged and wanting to stay.

I seriously hope that is not the reason they are playing OMac.

Exactly what I'm saying. He's not perfect. Like all of us, he can improve and if he's any sort of professional, that's what he'll be working on. If he thinks he's worth more than we are willing to pay then he should seek greener pastures. The club will do what is best for the club.

My point is that he is far from the worst in the team and he does not deserve some of the bagging he has received on here. I'm all about objectivity. Let's take the emotion out of it and stick to the observable facts. Maybe some of his mistakes may occasionally lead to an opposition goal but this is no worse than mistakes in other parts of the ground. They just appear more costly. I would argue that mistakes like not seeing Jack Watts on his own 20 meters from goal and putting it on top of Hogan's head in a two on one contest is even more costly. Sometimes, it depends on which end of the ground the mistakes happen.

Midfielders are a dime a dozen, I would never trade TMac for Prestia. Would have to get a KPD and a 2nd/3rd rounder in return. Ik people keep complaining but he is on of the best rated young defenders going around, he would demand a big trade price. When it comes down to it, trading a mobile, tall, aerobic beast with obvious talent  who is 1-3 years off his peak is just stupid. He has decision making flaws but other than that he is everything you want in a 2nd defender. We just need the first defender and the jobs done. Get the other pieces right and its funny how any players flaws start to get hidden in a good side. Some players just need talent around them Tom is one of those players.

Agreed.  My post was somewhat tongue-in-cheek saying that if TMc goes chasing big coin and mfc just say:  take it or leave it and he declines to accept our offer.  Then we have to make the most of the inevitable trade.

You are being to Logical AW

Right now our senior list has some talent. Is still learning how to get a killer instinct. (We lost that somewhere 50 years ago)

But the most pressing partvis the list is not balanced.

Grimes is done. Lynden is also finished.

Recruiting Melksham was just plain stupid. TMac for all his flaws must be retained or if not must be replaced with an en experienced key defender

I don't like to buy into crap like "contract negotiations/uncertainty are becoming a distraction" but how many times do we hear "the players didn't come to play" or "they're not on today". How hard can it be....

Whatever the reason he isn't replicating his early form from last year.

They're not robots mate.

Are you telling me you've never had an off day at work? Never, for example, woke up feeling sore, had a slight cold, had family troubles on your mind, worried about your job security or been angry at your colleagues or boss?

It shows a complete lack of understanding of human nature to just expect footballers to be different to everybody else, and perform at 100% efficiency every time they play a game.

We've all had bad days, but with footballers, especially within our club it seems every second weekend they're having a bad day. At some stage considering the money they're on they need to become accountable.

TMac's contract was also discussed on the Fox Footy mid season review last night.  Jed Healy made a thinly veiled reference to the deal getting done now that McDonald had sorted out his management.   Who manages Tom?  Reading between the lines it looks like a classic case of manager overreach that has required an expectations realignment process to take place.  The club will have been quietly undertaking the exercise behind the scenes.

not really because Healy didn't.  But the clear inference was that McDonald has been getting bad advice from his manager but things are well down the path to being put back on track and will culminate in a signature shortly...

Tom maybe not so silly after all. Possibly the nudge from Roo's had him thinking. For all his faults he has a role there to play, for mine as #2 Back Should he stay I hope he's in good company ;)

Thanks Copuchas for the update

Maybe he deals with Pickering and is waiting for the legal case to settle. You can't make assumptions about his management. That is simply overreach.

There's no assumption, not even an assertion.  I was relating directly comments made by Healy on the Fox Footy round table for the benefit of those who may not have access.  Go and listen if you wish / have a subscription.  The arrogance of some on here is truly breathtaking.....

Assumption :- noun
  1. 1.
a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof.
"they made certain assumptions about the market"
    synonyms: supposition, presupposition, presumption, premise, belief, expectation, conjecture,speculation, surmise, guess, theory, hypothesis, postulation, conclusion, deduction,inference, thought, suspicion, notion, impression, fancy;

Copuchas, you read between the lines and yet you claim to not make an assumption, you cannot have it both ways, however I agree the arrogance of some here is truly breathtaking.

ManDee, let me make it simple for you, lest you have cause to resort to a dictionary....

The verbatim quote from Gerard Healy was: "and I think we'll see Tom McDonald sign in the near future...I think he's ...er...just having management issues at the present time.  He's an important signing".

No assumption, no assertion.  Just factual.

97% for HSC English my side....trust you fared as well or better.

You said "reading between the lines" and then you made two assumptions.

1 "it looks like a classic case of manager overreach"

2 "that has required an expectations realignment process to take place."

Must have been an easy English examination that year.

When people are quoting dictionary meanings, it's time to leave the thread.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
