Sorry, bad pun.ย

Still, according the the Herald-Sun, he's having a great pre-season and with Roughy out may well be in their starting 22 in round 1.ย

โ€œHis effort and attitude have been really good since the day he arrived, but the job now is to transfer that training performance into game performance.โ€

Honestly, I really hope he does do well with them.ย

As do I, just not against us.

Of course he will do well against us Ethan, that's a given!

wouldn't take too much notice of the article. just another pre-season fluff piece

but i hope jack does get a game but doesn't do well against us. seems only fair :)ย

Fluff piece. Care factor , zero.

Poos and Wees are just wees and poo, no red and blue !ย

I would have thought it'd be tough for him to take to an AFL field again.

The cries of "TUNNEL BALL" from the opposition would be relentless.

Think he's got something reasonable to offer the Hawks this year, especially with Roughy out

I would've paid Dawes out and kept fitzy could never understand the ย decision Dawes is always injured and fitzy won Casey's BF no brainer.

No he didn't.

Don't think he won the B&F, but other than that I agree with you entirely.

Close but no cigar.

Aiden Riley won the B & F at Casey last year.

Fitzy was runner up.

that the Hawks are even considering Fitzy as a replacement for Roughy just shows what a massive hit it is for them (no offence Fitz)

i imagine they will just play two rucks, mcevoy and ceglar and Fitz will only get a run if more injuries occur

ย

good luck to him. but he had chance at the Dees and this was in years when we had amazing forwards lines including Rivers, Garland, Frawley

His papers were clearly marked by the Coaches after about 7 years and 22 games at the Dees.

Dawes had another year of a contract to go and is a better player than Fitzy.

I would have liked him to stay as well, but can see why he wasn't kept.

We are probably looking to Weideman, Oscar Mc, Hulett andย the two Kings to develop intoย better players than him.ย

Now remind me what we used the pick 94 that we traded him for?

We traded him so he could begin training with the Hawks earlier than if he was a DFA iirc

I feel he should've played more (and as a forward, the backline stuff was never going to work), but he took so long to get his body right and his skills were mostly dreadful.

He'll offer the Hawks about as much as Frost will offer us. A big body who won't mark or kick it well but can provide speed in the forward line, can jump in the ruck and possibly pinch hit down back (Frost has better long term potential down back).ย

If he plays for the Hawks he'll do well because his speed with their ball movement in a lethal combination, but doesn't mean he would produce the same for us.

Space on the list.

On the other hand, given that he was drafted in 2009, the fact that he was only worth pick 94 probably tells us all we need to know. I'm all for giving players every chance possible, but there comes a point ...

Ex Melbourne player + Hawthorn = success.

betcha he becomes handy, Stefan Martin style

I would be happy for him but surprised. The Hawks allow no room for error amongst their players.

Cult hero.

The trouble is baby giraffes grow up and don't stay unco forever. I have an idea we bailed out on Fitz too early. Unfortunately that tunnel ball incident unfairly defined him.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
