Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Gil the dill asked asked by Slobbo in radio this morning if Gil wanted Ess strong again next year. "Yes" was the answer.

Dill was asked if he thought Paul Marsh was a gun slinger for the players. "You would need more bullets to be a gun slinger" from Dill.

Arrogant, conflicted, myopic and letting down all clubs let alone clubs like ours is Dill.

The most annoying thing for me is the contrast in treatment of clubs, we were denied a priority pick because we were found not guilty of tanking, despite 33 wins in 7 years and most against expansions sides and coming off arguably the worst year of all time and players leaving left right and centre.

But EFC are found guilty of drug cheating, send the integrity of the game into shambles and the AFL is systematically rigging the system to ensure they're back up the ladder ASAP because it's all about money to them, the sport is corrupt and it's becoming obvious, in a year where imo they should get draft picks they could easily get at least 2 top 5 picks, if not more. the only reason they're keeping compo picks is because Hooker and Hurley look like leaving, i don't care what rubbish justification they come up with, it was set to be scrapped.

Easy explanation IMHO. The nay sayers (Robbo, Holmes etc) have already pointed out the so called inconsistencies between Brock and the 34 by ASADA and are calling for the 34 to be re-instated. It is nonsense of course, but Dank is merely fighting his relevance deprivation and making himself feel important. Justice and the rule of law are seemingly irrelevant in this.

then there is the question of why asada has not pursued robinson. this also is being raised by commentators. was there a deal done for "cooperation"?

There are so many deals going on at the moment that you have to get in the queue to have your Confession heard for redemption.

Well I think there is a case for ASADA to go after not only Robinson, but Reid, Charters, Thompson and Hird. I get the impression ASADA/WADA believe their job is done, and they think they have made their point. I suspect this has something to do with their own internal funding where governments around the world, especially our own, are cutting their funding.

There is a case though here that the suspects above will get their comeuppance via the courts where the litigation is only just beginning.

Ask yourself this question. If Robbo asked McLachlan if he wanted 'xxx' to be strong next year and 'xxx' was any of the 18 clubs in the competition, what answer would you expect to hear? I would be extraordinarily surprised if the answer to that question was not a "yes" for every club. So it really was a stupid question to ask the AFL CEO.

Maybe I was just being biased but I just thought the whole way he handled the interview (Dill) he came across as wanting a big club strong even and not to worried about the rest. He was asked a similar questions about the Lions and didn't sound as supportive, but again maybe I was just being biased.

That's OK. Bias is perfectly acceptable when you support an AFL club. It's even better if you can be self-aware. Well done.

Essendrug have given Hooker a five deal ? bribe to keep him at Tulla and  out of the courts I guess.

If they had one you could say they are selling their soul.

I don't think Freo's form would make them very appealing but Hawks had a huge offer on the table for him, he'd have to be close to the highest paid player going around to top it.

So

If i was a player at a club serving a drug ban

And that club couldnt tell me what they gave me

I would never sign a new contract. Not in a million years.

However, i would sign one if i knew exactly what had happened Or what id been given...

5 years to Hooker feels like far too long. He's good, but not THAT good.

"Fremantle, North Melbourne, Collingwood, Melbourne and Hawthorn courted Hooker, some with six-year deals at $800,000 a year."

There are obviously some clubs around the AFL that think he is that good, including yours. Perhaps Melbourne didn't offer 6 years, but I doubt any of those clubs came knocking with less than 5 years on the table.

There are some truly bizarre but not unexpected reactions/responses to this story on here.

But Choke, yours is certainly not the most bizarre.

I reckon you give him too much credit.

Hooker is an above average player who the above teams seem to be willing to offer a star-level contract for, especially given his age.

Don't get me wrong, I like Hooker. He'd be a good addition to any of the above teams. I just don't see how he's worth that much.

It's entirely possible though that the teams are looking at increased salary cap spending because of the new TV rights deal, and $800,000 p/a isn't nearly as high proportionately as it used to be. I still think 6 years for a 28 year old is too long though. I'd say it's too long for almost any 28 year old in the league, unless you need to get them over the line to get a flag in the next couple of years.

This contract is more important to Essendon than it is to anyone else. It shows them retaining good talent and that's what they need to do.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
