Demons marathon on Foxtel

Got plans this weekend? You do now if you've got Foxtel or have a dee supporting mate that does. From midnight on Friday night for 24 hours it is nothing but Melbourne games. A few from 2015 and a few older ones. In true Foxtel form they don't give the year of the games just the teams and round. I assume they will all be wins ?

so tell your other half to take the kids to see the grandparents, buy a slab and enjoy some footy.

Ive been hanging to watch some old matches as I've got a newborn and am up all hours with nothing to watch. And Foxtel have only had that guest programming on which is basically the same finals played over and over. Don't get me started.

Anyway, thought some of you might not notice that this was happening.

Some games that they'll playing:

Geelong V Melbourne - rd 20 2005, Simonds Stadium (1 point win, broke the 17 year Kardina Park hoodoo.)

Geelong V Melbourne - rd 12 2015. Simmonds Stadium (best win in recent history)

Melbourne V Fremantle - rd 22 1997, MCG (not sure what was so special about that win. Just a random late season win in a dismal season)

Melbourne V Fremantle - rd 7, 2008. MCG (50 pt comeback)

Melbourne V Collingwood - rd 12 2010. MCG. The draw.

Richmond V Melbourne - rd 4 2015 MCG. (Inagural Anzac day eve win)

Essendon V Melbourne - rd 13 2014. MCG. (Salem kicks winning goal)

Melbourne V W Bulldogs - rd 14 2013. MCG.(one of our 2 wins for the season. Almost blew 7 goal lead)

Melbourne V Port - rd 9 2010. Darwin. ( 1 point win in our Darwin debut)

Shame there is not anything from 2000 finals series,  haven't been able to watch the norf prelim in years since I retired my vhs and it's not on you tube either. That 2nd quarter was the best. Would prefer if they showed more games from 10-15 years back , by the looks of it they haven't thought too hard for us as the other clubs have a much better selection and go back some years .

my friend out on a remote farm is a Sainter...   He has Austel.  I've watched it a few times at night.  Its boring, & the news is carp shocking.  I fixed/moved his TV Aerial & used RG-6 cable & F-connectors,  he now has all Free to air stations & is rapt... just got to learn to use the guide on the remote to block out adds.

he's much happier after battling thru the day.   doors are working,  TV, etc.  spouting soon.

down with pay TV...

I wasn't going to say this, for fear of being labelled a whinger, but as you have I, support your comments.

I note that other teams have some great finals games being shown, but not us. It can't be argued that ours were too old, as there are finals from the early 80's being shown .

I would have loved to be able to record our 87 finals wins and some from the 90's and 2000's.

I think we have been treated shabbily by Fox Footy, considering they have just had weeks and weeks of mainly ex Hawks and Cats commentators, getting their best games shown over and over and we can't get some of our best finals on even once.

Spot on, all summer it's been cats, hawks and pies (I know they have been successful and well suported and that drives the demand) .... but you'd think the one day they allocate the dees they would put some proper thought into it or at least ask a melb supporter instead of a computer generated random selection from the past 10 years.

And they do actually have our finals wins from 87 and 98 they've definitely shown some of them before

Bottom line is that until we win a flag we won't earn the respect of the wider football public and media

Where did you find out what year they are. I can only see the round not the year.  I just rang Foxtel to ask if they would put the years of the games on the Guide. They said they will get on to it today.  Believe that when I see it. Agree with others comments about them being a disappointing choice of games. Also agree on needing some Robbie and '87 games.

Hey It's time,

Not confirmed at all but I've got a killer memory when it comes to what Round we played a team.

For instance, the melb v port game is rd 9 but doesn't say the year. But i remember that we beat port in rd 9 2010 by a point so I'm assuming it's that exact game.

Kidding themselves if they cut off at the final siren and don't show the classic Jamar/Colbert interview where Russian is so rooted he conducts it sitting down.

Impressive. I remember that game well. My son was 12 at the time and got a knee injury that day playing in a footy game. He got so excited when the siren went and we won that he jumped up in the air and came down on it and it collapsed. Off to Emergency we went.

One big thing missing from these FOXTEL summer marathons is identification of the games.  Surely an unobtrusive watermark in a corner A vs B round 10, 2003 would be a simple thing to add.  It would add to the enjoyment and interest.

I remember this game so clearly. Brent Grgic was running around with no sponsor logo on his guernsey because he wasn't legal drinking age so couldn't support Tooheys.

Why are they repeating a couple of these later on?

They have other better games they could show

Unfortunately, the library of top quality recently produced winning MFC games on film is rather limited for obvious reasons.

That and the fact that a good number were thrown out with the data on the Essendon supplements programme and subsequently eaten by the dog.

On the credit side, I sense a new era coming on for the club and hopefully in a few years' time we'll be able to delight in some stunning victories from the current era.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
