So let me get this right, If you fail to keep appropriate paperwork you are disqualified from playing in the finals and fined by the AFL.

If you have been found guilty of taking Performance Enhancing Drugs by the Court of Arbitration for Sport you can keep the Brownlow medal for the AFL Best & Fairest because Robbo thinks the standard of proof if is not acceptable! This is the international body trusted with adjudicating cases over world sport  that has handed down a guilty verdict for using PED's against Jobe Watson during the year he was awarded a Best & Fairest award. The standard of proof is that he was found guilty, that cannot be argued. If Jobe appeals the case and is found not guilty let him keep it, if not take it away from him now. Why is this so hard for the AFL?

I must be missing something.

That the AFL don't seem too concerned about minor matters like integrity, common sense, common decency ...

The AFL may never have considered that their pure, drug free, integrity boosted competition could ever fall foul of WADA or CAS .

Havent had time to dream up their typical "on the run" solution yet

Kangaroo courts don't generally depend on any consideration of evidence.  They just make up their minds regarding who is charged and who it will effect or upset.

Reminds me of science fiction movies where a robot is given contradictory instructions. "Jobe must hand it b-- must hand it b--...  CANNOT OVERRIDE PRIME OBJECTIVE ... Jobe must keep medal. Jobe must keep medal. Jobe must hand it b---  *sparks fly everywhere* *smoke* *explosion*

I agree R and B just look at the Martin business if you need any other evidence.

I heard a pretty straightforward argument the other day on Triple M.

You can't win the Brownlow if you are suspended for any game in the season. Jobe has been retroactively suspended for that year. He is therefore ineligible simply based on that.

I wonder how Chris Grant would feel if Watson retains his brownlow

Indeed. For Star Wars observers...orders from the dark side using the force...

Copped 1 week for striking Nick Holland and IIRC rightly was dead unlucky to go down. he should have appealed it to CAS.

Perhaps they should give Jobes medal to Chris

The Australian and Hun reporting the appeal is on with most of the 34 joining in and it is all being funded by the EFC. I would love to what grounds they are appealing on?

Hopefully Melksham sees sense and just takes the 12 months off and doesn't risk the extra year, especially if an injunction isn't granted and he has to sit out this year anyway.

I have a sneaky suspicion that if they do get an injunction and play this year then the booing of Goodes last year will seem like a welcome home celebration in comparison to what these boys will get.

Oh No!!!

SEN have just announced the players WILL appeal.

God knows on what grounds!

If they lose they will get a year and maybe 2

EFC insurers to pay for appeal.

Essendon insurers set to fund appeal to Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland

As I said in an earlier post - easy to appeal when it someone else's money!

that doesn't mean cas will accept any appeal. still would be another step required before an appeal could go ahead

Surely not.

Which players? All 34? Or NLM's 'splinter' group?

Here is a pearly of a comment from the delusionals on the Hun site.

"I cannot believe they can be convicted fairly when the standard of proof is 'reasonably satisfied'. This is a complete nonsense.  So without any positive drug tests the body adjudicating the case can 'feel' that the vibe is that they are guilty.

Until the standard of proof is at the very least on the 'balance of probability' (civil jurisdiction) then the AFL must walk away from WADA and the Court of  arbitration for sport."

The impression I had is not all 34 will appeal...read all about it in The Australian tomorrow!!  Chip LG scoop.

My God, you idiots! STOP! Wake up, smell the roses, and sue the people RESPONSIBLE for putting you into this whole mess!

Oh, that's right. You can't sue Dank because he has the evidence that proves you were all complicit!

The appeal will go nowhere.. It will be summarily thrown back in their faces.

Quixote would be impressed though

Fox Sports AFL: Former Bomber to appeal drug ban

Apparently just NLM:

My favourite excerpt:

"His personal injury and compensation claim against Essendon will be handled by lawyer Tony Nolan, but the AFLPA has told him it will run his appeal without charge. "

So in addition to the CAS appeal, he's suing Essendon!

AFLPA have denied they will fund any appeal. Marsh said all costs were covered by Bombers.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
