RIP #8

Posted

The first number I had on a Melbourne Jumper.

That bloke could drop kick it out a country mile..

Condolences to Family and Friends.

Very sad day. Magnificent player. Strong, highly skilled, could kick it a mile.

Would spend hours down the park with my #8 guernsey emulating ( in my mind's eye only of course ) launching ' droppo's " from the goal square.

Had a marvelous knack of quietening opposition spearheads. Boy could he kick.

Remember him well - as bbub pointed out number 8. One radio commentator at the time always called him "Tassie Bob ".

You'd remember him playing surely SWYL?

So as not to confuse him with Big Bob Johnson.

Vale Tassie.

This young breed need to emulate what these legends achieved RIP champ.

Vaguely remember his last game at the old Lakeside oval vs South. I think we got toweled up so he went forward in the last quarter and kicked a goal. The crowd went wild! Anyone else remember it or am I losing my marbles?

The man was a hero for many in my generation. He could play in the ruck and up forward but he was peerless when he was at full back.

Those drop kicks would often hit the centre of the ground and of course, he was always a feature of the World of Sport kicking competition. I can still see Bruce Andrew with hair neatly parted in the middlle, lifting the board to show he was awarding Tassie 9 out of 10 for one of his kicks.

Vale Tassie and condolences to his family.

You're marbles are intact. He kicked a personal best of 2 goals. A young 3rd gamer by the name of Greg Wells starred with 5 goals.

I knew of him BBO coz dad talked about him a lot

But in '71 when i first saw the Demons play a young kiddie who went by the name "Crackers Keenan" was wearing number 8 probably given to him by Tassie

i did get Tassies Autograph in the late '80s but sadly it has been misplaced....RIP to another of our Premiership boys....

Probably one if the best exponents of the drop kick I've ever seen. Almost reached the centre circle a number of times. RIP

Would make a mess of the webs and zones these days just kick straight over the top of them

Was my favourite player I could imagine him at CHB these days kicking a 70 metre drop kick to Hogan contested mark 50% success rate

Remember him fondly! He held down full back with aplomb while my namesake was slotting them from the Half Forward Flank. Ah, the glory days of my youth!

Sorry Tassie didn't live to see our next Premiership!

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
