Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I don't. They are in desperate need of quality mids, and they already have a highly talented forward in Daniher. I'd be staggered if they didn't take 1 mid.

So at pick 5 you'd pass on a KPF that you believe is a superior player to take an inferior mid because you needs mids? Wowee-wee-wow!

Weideman is an interesting one. I just don't think there's enough info out there for us punters to form an opinion on how good or bad he is. But I'm confident Taylor & Co will know the answer. If he's available and there's a question mark for them, they won't take him but if he's available and they think he can turn into a very good Key Forward then it seems to me he'll be pick 7. But on the same logic, I would have thought Dons will take a mid and him if for the same reasons as Taylor they think he'll make a good key forward in which case from what I've seen and read I'd be happy with Curnow at 7.

I know it's a bit curmudgeonly, but I'm sick of reading posters describing players as "a lock". Can't we have a bit of descriptive variation?

And for what it's worth, I don't care who we choose at 3 and 7. I assume that anyone picked in the top dozen will have the makings of a good player if developed properly.

Nothing wrong with being a curmudgeon- I've been one for years.

As much as we need another tall forward, it feels as though the percentage play would be to take Parish with pick 3 and then either Mathieson or Oliver with pick 7.

Nah, we'll be taking a tall at pick 7. We're desperate for a quality young tall to support Hogan and the chances are one will be there. The fact that Hogan states the following is also a clear signal of our intent. And you're not going to be using picks 46 or 50 to land one.
Indeed, he said he’d been busy studying draft prospects — including potential forwards — to help the team mount an assault on September.
“We’ve only got a young team and could do with a little more help up forward,” Hogan said.
“These days the academies are amazing, you get developed from such a young age, come into AFL footy and you can basically slide straight into the system.
“There’s not that three to four years that talls used to have, you can come straight in and have an impact.”

Two of, in order of preference

Parish

Weiderman

Mckay

Francis

Curnow

Oliver

Maitherson

I preface this with 'I'm sure the club knows what they're doing' but I'm underwhelmed with Mathieson based on the small sample size provided by YouTube clips. His disposal looks a little scheissenhausen.

That's just a subjective comment, because you can't say that KPF X will be exponentially better than MID Y. After Parish, Essendon will have the option of selecting the 2nd highest rated mid in the draft. They still have the option of choosing the 3rd highest rated KPP with pick 4. It's a no-brainer that they'll take 1 mid.

Having watched him live a couple of times this year, his disposal is fine, he is really good in traffic and like alot of younger players is still learning when to hang onto the ball and lower his eyes and when to just go long off one step and get it forward.

but he's an animal at the contest, finds space and tackles hard, some similarities to Dom Tyson

I think it's very possible the Bombers take Curnow and Wiederman. They have picks 24 and 25 where there seems to be plenty of midfielders available, so I think they would try and set their forward line up for a decade with Curnow and Wiederman with their first 2 picks, if we take Parish.

If Joe Daniher was in the draft, he'd be selected ahead of Curnow and Weideman. They could even select Francis or Collins as a KPB to support Hurley, and play Hooker up forward.

People are over-hyping Curnow and Weideman because we're in line to pick one of them up.

People are talking them up because Brett Anderson is tweeting things like 'Many recruiters believe Curnow could be the best player out of the draft' and Cal Twomey is saying things like 'If Wiederman plays all year he might have been a top 2 pick'.

I hope we don't take Weideman at 3. Was talking to my friend who works at the Murray Bushies under 18s last night and he said he is a huge risk in the top 5 let alone top 10. Has had serious injuries for 2 years with his ankles apparently.

Melbourne will be doing a special medical screening with him next week.

Just farken pick Oliver. He will be the best mid from this draft. Mark my words.

He is definitely not out of the question at pick 7 mate.

Will he be the best mid? Time will tell.. Personally he has enormous upside due to very little exposure at elite under 18 championships. I compare him to a taller and quicker Luke Parker.. He is an absolute maniac at the contest and prides himself on his agression and hardness.

A few clubs think that Curnow will be a midfielder, so Bombers could look at the Curnow pairing as a mid & forward pairing.

Also a very decent chance that the Bombers will draft Mitch Brown at one of those picks in the 20's.

I think he will be better then Parish. But I trust our recruiters now, we have done well last couple of drafts since Taylor came in so see what happens.

I wouldn't be surprised if we pull the Pin on Ollie at 3 to beat Ezsendon to him, who are apparently considering him for picks 4,5

That's about what i am hearing as well, huge riskvreward factor there, if it comes off he is the perfect foil for Hogan and potentially a gun forward for 10 years, or it could be a total bust.

Harry Mckay imo is a far better option, he will be there at pick 7, Parish and Mckay or Oliver would be great imo

The sleep at night factor may come into play. KPF's are hard to get. Saints overlooked a gun mid to get one last year. We have heaps of improvement that will come naturally from our existing mids plus Trengove and Petracca to come plus our trades. If Hoges gets injured we will be in strife or if he gets a massive offer from another club when his contract is up. I get the feelng that coaches sleep better when they have a couple of gun/good tall KPF's.

If we pick up next year with more wins then we can attract a gun established mid anyway. A mid picked up now is likely to take 2 or more years to come really good anyway.

I think if we rate Weideman or Curnow as say 4,5 or maybe even 6 we may very well reach to get the one we want using the same logic as the Saints - they are so hard to get.

Taylor did say if there is not a lot in it go the Tall.

Taking Oliver at 3 would throw a spanner in the works and also ensure one of Curnow Francis Parish or Weideman will be available at 7.

So would re picking Viv Michie with pick 3?

Why would we not pick one of those that you stated and still have the possibility of another and Oliver wt pick 7.

I never said exponentially better and they don't need to be - just rated better. If Essendon rate a KPF higher than a mid at 5 they'll take him, even if they've taken a KPF at 4 - you'd be stupid not to.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
