Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Milera??

Would also have to come into consideration. For mine though, given we already have Garlett, Kent, Kennedy & Kennedy-Harris on the list, both Tucker & Oliver fit our current needs more then Milera for now. Very good young player though.

Everyone keeps saying we are desperate for mids which I think is incorrect. We are desperate for ready made mids to help our core nucleolus of mids. We have viney, petracca, Salem, brayshaw, vandenberg, melksham pick 3 this year most likely parish, Salem, trengove waiting, and for depth we have been Kennedy who can play mid, michie, Newton and more. I don't think we are desperate for mids from the draft. We are desperate for mids like Tyson or Vince.

Frankly I would like to see us pick up two (Victorian-based) mates like we did last year. Both Parish and Curnow have played together with Geelong Falcons / Vic Country and are both handy players in two areas where we still have a need!

I believe you're confusing Parish and Francis

Far country Victoria, closer to SA than Melbourne, then got a scholarship to a school out Adelaide way.

AFL website video on the draft players is pretty interesting!

There's no Petreccas or Brayshaws in this draft there's spuds surely an AFL expert like yourself can see that.

Only one draft can have "Petreccas (sic) and Brayshaws" and we have them, and, again, if there are those players next year - we wouldn't have access to them or do you think we will be worse than Carlton, Ess, and BL?

And, everytime 'we' experts tell you this draft is this or that - there is always quality players that come from it, and from outside the top ten.

So stop looking for excuses as to why 'we will/have screw/ed this one up'...

This doesn't have to end in tears.

Reminds me of a Malthouse comment. He said it doesn't matter where in the draft they go, because every kid in the draft can play. What matters is how you develop them once they're at the club.

Just had a look at them myself. The kid could really play. Clean hands, good evasive skills, good vision and disposal.

Perhaps explains Carlton's trading and drafting strategy prior to this year. (Having said that, in some respects he is right. It's just that the probability of success decreases as you drift down the draft order.)

There's a reason Malthouse isn't coaching anymore.

All kids look good at junior level because they are playing against other kids. Some kids will stand up in AFL level and some won't irrespective of how well they are developed.

Latest from Brett Anderson:

  • Parish no lock at 3. Thinks we are looking heavily at Curnow
  • 7 apparently we are looking at Collins (Curnow - Collins double)
  • Francis might make it to Adelaide at pick 9 as Essendon arent too keen on taking him. Thinking that Parish makes it to them and they pick up one of Curnow or Weiderman.
  • Balic wont be taken at 7

I just dont see why we need Collins. He is great, but that means we are thinking that one of Frost, McDonald or McDonald will be a key forward.

Interesting stuff. Makes you realise the drafts not as locked in as we all seem to think at this stage.

I can see the appeal of Collins, we played Frost forward quite a bit at the start of the year and I see him becoming a tall utility more than a key defender. As for Oscar McDonald, we are absolutely no guarantee he will make it which leaves us with only Tom as our only established key back when Dunn retires.

In fact, I don't even think Dunn is a true key position defender. Don't get me wrong, though. He has played very well since being given that role. It's just that he's not tall or big enough to go with the really tall or strong forwards. I think we have only one proven key position defender in Tom McDonald, although Sam Frost and Oscar McDonald may yet add to the list.

A few journo's have mentioned that Parish isn't a lock and Curnow and Weideman are in the mix (IMO Weideman behind the other two), so think there's a little bit in that information.

Have heard from elsewhere that Collins is in the mix, so think Brett has some reasonable mail there too. I think we'd love to get a quick, classy mid, but the priority is key forward, and there's a feeling that we need to nab a key back too. Oscar Mc and Frost may make it, but I've no doubt that Collins offers far more in terms of contested ability and rebound out of defence. He's a good decision maker and hits targets coming out of defence. Haven't seen so much of that from Frost at this stage.

in number terms, our midfield actually doesn't look too bad now:

Starting mids

Nathan Jones

Dom Tyson

Bernie Vince

Jack Viney

Relievers

Angus Brayshaw

Christian Salem

Aaron vandenBerg

Christian Petracca

Jack Trengove

Ben Newton

Jake Melksham

Ben Kennedy

Billy Stretch

Alex Neal-Bullen

Tom Bugg

Viv Michie

Matt Jones

Potentially:

Kennedy-Harris

Kent

With almost a month till Draft Day we're going to hear every possibility rolled out as our pick for 3 and 7... It's the nature of the media to spew out vaguely irresistible [censored]-bits for us obsessive saps to chew on...

Would be [censored] if we took Curnow at 3.

Pure speculative pick. We would regret it big time. Can't play as a key forward, can't play as a mid.

He only averages 14 touches a game, is not worth a pick 3.

Pick 3s belong to game changes and players who can really rip a game open. Not a 2 goal 3rd tall who doesn't even know his own position

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
