Does so much right. Goal kicking is one of the easiest things you can teach and we know he has a good kicking action.
He is so inexperienced and has been in and out of the side a lot. He needs confidence and to work on his mental game.

I still think he could be a belter. Normally has a beautiful kicking action, but wasnt so good today.

Im not off the Weed yet.

I think a rotation of Trac and Gus in the midfield with resting HFF would be fine, Trac can be dangerous in the Fwd line but cant play midfield full time imo. juggling 5 of them shouldnt be too hard.

Funny though the game turned when Gus was a genuine mid

It's all between the ears for Weids. Almost a given that if he misses one early, he'll miss more. Hopefully that late one will help him get the confidence back cause he's killing it everywhere else.

Unfortunately his kicking is consistently poor. I wonder if he's been practising it at training

He kicked 39.24 over his career, showing he is a great kick for goal.

This year he has 12.7.

Even adding a couple of misses to that, he still has a healthy accuracy.

Neita used to be the same.

12 goals from 6 games. Only 5 players averaging more than 2 goals a game this year. Of those 5, only Kennedy and Dixon are talls. He’s having a GREAT season.

Should have had 5 by half time. He is a key forward taking marks in front of goal between 20 to 40m and near straight in front yet converting at about 20%. Convert 2.3 to 5 and you are a superstar! He is doing the hard work well but kicking??

Goodwin leaving Weideman out earlier on the year was not the right decision.. Our forward line looks potent ever since he came back into the side.

Relying on tmac as the sole forward is obviously a mistake. I believe all supporters recognised this but goodwin failed to

On the surface of it, yes absolutely.
You can never really know though, particularly with a developing player like Weid.

Brayshaw was kept out of the 2018 team for the first three rounds, went on to finish third in the Brownlow.
We'll never know if he would have had the same year without the development/kick up the bum that those first three rounds gave him.

For better or for worse, Weid didn't play for four rounds... but now he's in career best form.
Did we miss out on having our best forward playing, or did those rounds in development lead to his current form?

so easy to say in hindsight. out of form and not getting near it in the practice games, but you are definite he should have played?. that could also been disastrous until he showed he was ready.

Despite a few easy misses, Weid is still a great kick (would back him in more often than not) and really impresses with his contested work. Only knock on him has been his ability to compete and breakeven a contest around the ground, which this year he has really gotten more aggressive with his contested work. Seems to be more of a complete player - one on one, contested marking/spoiling and at ground level. Starting to see for the first time why we let go Hogan for May. If we can keep delivering the ball well to this bloke he's a 2-3 goal a game player.

The set shot misses are bad - all of them should have been goals. IIRC he missed one or two vs Brisbane as well.

But so much else is going right for him. His leading, his leap at the ball, his confidence, even his follow up work when it hits the deck. It's all really important and all improving.

He's a critical component to any future success we want to have.

I'm confident the set shots will improve. He was a wonderful kick in 2018. I'm sure it's there to be regained.

Wouldn’t it be great if he came of age with his first big bag against his grandfather’s old team with Eddie in the commentary box or the studio reminding us for the nth time about the family history?

Technically Weid is a good kick. I am sure he will be ok.

Absolutely loved seeing the Weid mark tonight. One grabber to Spargo on the lead in the 2nd and used his body strongly for both his goals. Big step forward tonight for me. Always viewed him a double grabber but tonight massive step forward.

Yep I'm not worried about his kicking. The big question mark over him was his ability to stick marks and hit packs. He's doing that now and I'm confident the goals will come. He's already averaging 2 a game this year which is a handy return, if he pushes up to 3 or more a game that's Coleman Medal territory in this day and age.

Why does he always look like he has been punched in the face?

Every game he seems to have some sort of mark under his right eye.

P.S. his workrate today was fantastic. Hit up lead after lead and doubled back when the pass didnt come his way.

Developing nicely.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
