For anyone that thinks he's a dud, go and YouTube the highlights of the Essendon v Carlton game of Rd 11 2013 and check out who kicks the clutch winning goal with 1:30 left.

Jake Carlisle?

Also everyone's stressing about Melksham's possible suspension, but nobody has ever posed the same concerns about Carlisle, who was likely part of the 34.

Maybe because we aren't in the running for Carlisle.

A few posters on Bomberblitz mention in passing that Melksham has been affected more by the ASADA sage than any other player at the club

I wonder why that is?

The asada sage? I hope he doesn't get wada thyme

Pfff, what would Pelchen know? Or Goodwin, McCartney or Roos? Demonlanders said it was a terrible deal so it must be.

Or Taylor or viney? Never ceases to amaze me some on DL think they no more about trade value than footy pros

Melksham will be okay.

No marlin though.

What if we change his name to Jack?

Maybe because we aren't in the running for Carlisle.

The point I was making is that you don't hear st Kilda or hawthorn fans sooking about Carlisle's possible suspension but us Melbourne supporters are carrying on like pork chops regards Melksham's possible suspension.

Can you blame MFC supporters for being pessimistic about trading? After a decade of Prenagast, not to mention the mismanagement that resulted in our club getting pinged for tanking, I'd be more surprised if MFC fans were supportive of our recruiters/list managers.

Fair point but this current FD has been excellent

Because we have been farked over so many times before BBP. If Milk gets suspended its an absolute waste of yet another pic.

That's just my thoughts.

You're you're going to keep throwing your toys out of the pram and acting like teenage girl because of the potential influence by people who are no longer at the club on decisions made by completely different people?

I'm sure there's a meme around to explain how ridiculous that is.

The bigger risk is the possible suspension hanging over Melksham's head.

I still believe there's a chance that some or all of the 34 players could get up to 2 year bans. I wouldn't have touched him for that reason but I can understand the club having a different view. He's probably worth the trade if nothing comes of the CAS hearing.

The truth is that none of us know whether there will be any penalties or what the length of those penalties might be. I would have preferred if we chased a similar type of player who wasn't embroiled in the Essendon scandal.

Could the plan be for the club to go to the draft with only 1 live pick (i.e. 6) with a few late picks to upgrade VDB and Harmes? If that's the case what does it matter that we've given up pick 25.

The draft is reportedly very week after 20 odd, so maybe we don't bother with a pick after 6.

Just a thought.

This. Been overlooked in the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Quite possible that we'll go to the draft with pick 6 (pick 3 if we're lucky) and 2 late picks for rookie upgrades.

I've just watched the Melksham highlights on the MFC website. I might have to change my opinion on the recruitment of this guy. He actually looks impressive in that package, kicks goals & hits targets.

That opening goal was magnificent

Watch out for the Melkshaqattack.

No?

Even if he gets suspended it will be for six months at the most 12 months, the essendon player have already served around 6 months when they got the first infraction orders that already time severed, that will come off suspension

I think this is a really astute trade for us. I'm pleased with it.

People here are not placing sufficient regard to the fact that Goodwin and McCartney genuinely know what he's like as a player and a person. They've worked with him. In short, he's not some speccy draft prospect who's been observed by some dude having watched a few hours of TAC Cup football. They also know what this list needs and where the gaps are.

And yep, he's not Selwood or Dangerfield, but neither of those players were gettable targets for this club. So that's largely irrelevant.

Welcome aboard Jake.

Thats speculation and not close to even the knowns.

Milkshake can receive 2 years. The no fault argument is here a myth as other players took a different view and opted out. It falls upon the player. Given the way the players involved were complicit with EFC in attempting to derail proceedings etc I can't see any leniency offered.

He has served a bit over 4 months only as voluntary suspension.

The the likelihood if Wada succeeds is a ban of around 18months. Nothing has come to light regarding any of the 34 restarting any suspension. I wouldn't expect to see him at all next season. Bargain.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
