Melksham and Kennedy for a second rounder (in a supposed weak draft) is solid.

I just see them as immediate upgrades on McKenzie and Riley.

They offer more.

Not sure why anyone would be annoyed/upset about this....

This is all part of the List Management strategy IMO.

Like him or not Melksham is a massive upgrade on Bail

Kennedy is 22 and from a potential perspective offers more than Riley.

Bugg only 21 and is a better player than Mckenzie.

It increases the depth of the squad no doubt.

exactly... some people just want scotch fillet or nothing, when t-bone or porterhouse will be just fine.

the dollar goes only so far, so budget for certain areas, but contesting players is A must.

so sick of butter wouldn't melt in they're mouths, types.

Not sure how much help I am going to be this year. The Board Member who was giving me the inside word pre-mid last season (Roos to coach etc) is now an x Board Member........ and for some reason, can't imagine why, my friend from the football department who I regularly have beers with, no longer talks shop with me.

Maybe I have blown my cover.

Not withstanding I have done my best work, extracted my best info, at the Grand Final in previous years. Alcohol loosens lips big time. Lets wait and see.

Its been 3 days since the Grand final GNF. Surely you must be sober enough now to give us the goss...

Happy to back Goodwin on this one if we must.....but NOT for pick 25.

Pick 43 is more than adequate for Melksham, particularly after seeing that budgie smuggler shot from DA's collection.

The personality of a player? I've got NFI what his personality's like, I'm basing my arguments on all I've seen of him as a footballer, and facts. The fact of the matter is that he's struggled to get a game for Essendon for a long time. My old man is Essendon, I watch a lot of them and he's amongst the most consistent butchers of the footy in the comp.

You make an interesting observation about die-hard supporters overrating their own players. Why then is every single Essendon supporter ecstatic to see the back of Melksham? If Watts or Howe, two of the most maligned players on our list, were to leave there'd still be howls of protest from a vocal minority. There's been none of that from Bombers supporters. Barely a dissenting voice.

As for Kennedy I've seen him play at ones and twos level. He's another one like McKenzie and Matt Jones who dominates in the VFL but struggles badly at AFL level.

I'm not saying there isn't extenuating circumstances for both of them. The supplements saga would have been incredibly draining, and Collingwood has a good young midfield. But please don't try to dress these two up as a real coup for the club.

You asked about the pot-shotting. I answered. I never accused you of being part of that group. But that group exists on this thread.

As for these 'facts' you're basing your argument on, you seem to be conveniently letting slide the one season that he has without doubt proven his worth and talents as a former number 10 draft pick. You've stated he's awful, yet you refuse to acknowledge what he has visibly shown on the football field. So what you're really basing your argument on is his last what, two years? Of which he's been in and out of a side who have had the largest of dark clouds hanging over it.

Our club is interested in getting Melksham. Goodwin and McCartney have both been at Essendon with Melksham under their tutelage. What does that tell you mate?

That he's awful?

lol.

He is an upgrade. He adds depth. There is potential for further improvement. They are facts.

As for the last bolded line, it just demonstrates your love for exaggeration.

Why else isn't he getting games then oracle if not for his ability and talent? His injury record is pretty good off the top of my head.

J Kennedy was in and out of one of the best midfields in the game, and a lot of the time was being played out of position.

There are a hell of a lot more examples of recycled discards not getting games at their previous clubs then having little to no impact when given a second chance at another club. Riley, Newton and Michie being three of them.

Two reasons really:

- He's a young player still developing

- Collingwood have a string of small forward/midfielders ahead of him and with greater games experience

Riley was delisted and we picked him up as a DFA.

Newton and Michie were third round draft picks and have helped with our depth.

Kennedy possesses a whole range of attributes that our team still lacks.

I give up.

I hope you're right mate. One decent season out of 6 for Melksham (and in this best season he still didn't even average 20 touches) doesn't fill me with great confidence, nor does Kennedy's inability to impress whenever he's had the chance to play in the ones.

Personally I don't think they'll improve our best 22, just our depth, so I don't think they're worth giving up a second rounder and decent money for. Time will tell however and I've been nothing but impressed by Goodwin and McCartney so far so I'm happy to back them in.

A former pick 4 who hasn't lived up to his potential after 3 years is quite different to a former pick 10 who hasn't lived up to their potential after 6 years.

In no universe are they like-for-like on the trade table except in Dodoro's eyes (and that's exactly the reason you know they aren't like-for-like).

FWIW they are replaying the Essendon v Sydney game from round 1 this year where Bumbers come from behind win.

20 disposals 1 goal and 9 tackles so im gonna watch with interest and see what we have on our hands. Looks to be tagging Hannerbry.

Pick 4 v Pick 10. Cale Morton v Patrick Dangerfield. What does that matter.

Same for 3 years v 6 years. Neither look all that likely to make it at their current clubs.

I rate Melksham at about pick 40 and I'd rather something a little more than Toumpas but I wouldn't be holding my breath.

If we end up trading Toumpas for either of Kennedy or Melksham that doesn't bother me too much even if it's slight unders.

You reckon Toumpas is worth more than Melksham ? I have no idea how you process that.

Fwiw, Chris Pelchen said he thought Melksham was worth in the vicinity of 20-25. He said he's an untapped talent that had the excellent combination of speed and endurance and had the lowest skinfolds in his draft year.

I keep harping back to 2013 when in his 4th year he averaged 20 possessions and kicked 16 goals. He finished top 5 in the B&F and Essendon finished 7th. If a trade was mooted at the end of that year he would have been worth pick 10 and Essendon would not have traded him. How much has coaching and ASADA ruined the last 2 years ?

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
