This is the 'commentator' who on Sports Today several weeks ago took calls on the subject of eradicating the bounce from the game completely (in favour of throwing the ball up) in order to encourage more female umpires to the game. His logic being that the art of the centre bounce is beyond the strength and coordination of any potential female umpires.

It's funny when commentators use words they've heard someone else say, and they think it makes them sound clever, but they don't really know what it means. He claims Melbourne aren't 'relevant' and compares us unfavourably with the doggies. I suppose that's why we've got more members than the doggies and get bigger crowds. What's in it for the media? You're/we're going to watch whether they have Dwayne or not. They could have the footy equivalent of John Arlott and you'd watch it. But they're not going to sell more advertising even with John Arlott.

In other words ... think of the money they save.

It's up to individual commentators to apply themselves and improve, whether out of professional pride or simply trying to climb the greasy pole. But they seem to lapse into complacency and mediocrity. And there is no consequence for doing so.
