Resilience - MFC Players V MFC Supporters (Merged Thread)

it's just that i've never seen you not being negative before

did you have some sort of epiphany?

It's a mindset thing dc. I'm still trying to weazle out of that Ashley Maddison misunderstanding.

In 1993 the crime rate in Washington DC dropped by 23% when thousands of people practiced transcendental meditation so there could be some effect on 22 players by thousands of negative supporters. Then again Lumumba practices transcendental meditation so it could be a load of sh*t.

I still have no [censored] idea how any of this impacts the players abilities to compete.

Roos never said it did.

He went off on one of his mental derailments to pontificate on our syndrome, others have equated it as an excuse for the players and himself.

Ironically enough, if you want to snore through other episodes of 360 after losses, he usually says "the coaching staff has to get better" blah blah blah.

Errrrrrrrr.........

Roos: "If supporters are telling you they are expecting to lose driving to the game, there's no doubt there's a vibe that must rub off on at least a small group of players."

That's the 'scar' rigamarole that we have discussed even before he came to the club isn't it? And the very next thing he said was that he was sick of talking about that crap.

No that's not the scar thing. That's him saying pretty bloody directly that supporters in their cars who are expecting to lose have an influence on the players. Pretty clear comment.

What he should be reading into it, is that some supporters have a fair idea about what to expect before we step out on the ground...because they have seen it happen all before...

Then again Lumumba practices transcendental meditation so it could be a load of sh*t.

Well that explains a lot.

Harry: (thinks) "Okay Harry, you've got the ball in your hands. That is what you're all about. This is living. This it it, man. But you've got to do something with it. What are you going to do? Think, man, think! Oh no, here comes that nasty man ... the one with the elbow ... whassis name? Hogg ... Hobbs ... Hodge! Luke Hodge! You need to do something Harry. AND I MEAN NOW. But what? Oh man, I'm losing my mellow .... Deep breaths, man. Nice and deep. Count 4 in .... now count WALLOP BANG OUCH

Hey Roos. Lay off the fans.

Remember, you have implied the players are scarred by the past. Don't the fans have a bigger right to be so?

Or would you like the fans to shut up or urine* off?

Just take your money and accept the fallout from games.

"If supporters are telling you they are expecting to lose driving to the game, there's no doubt there's a vibe that must rub off on at least a small group of players. That's just something they [the players] have got to get over. I'm sick of talking about it."

Ok the fans can stay at home then Paul. So there's a problem with the players then? Or are the players looking at these emails too? I'd love to see how the players would perform after a week of reading Demonland, let alone the coach, which of course seem to be separate entities when you open your mouth.

Errrrrrrrr.........

Roos: "If supporters are telling you they are expecting to lose driving to the game, there's no doubt there's a vibe that must rub off on at least a small group of players."

Why?? Would not happen if the supporters were not let down by the players so regularly, and wouldn't effect the players if they had any collective mental toughness and ruthless leadership on and off the field.

So, Paul, just bloody fix it!!

Only then will we stop having negative thoughts.

Absolutely pathetic excuse that one.

I wonder what "Ivan from Ivanhoe" is thinking about all this?

"Hello Tony...Is it me...Am i on?"

"Yes Hello Ivan you're Talking to Tony..."

roosy is not damaged is he?

No Daisy he's just been "Melbournised"!

Basically we are negative

But FMD we have good reason to be after what we have all been through

Improvement, Yes

But still to many horror days and absolute pathetic performances with no intensity

Which I as a supporter just can't tolerate

Why is Roos even reading supporter emails? ... I would have thought coaching this team was time consuming enough. I want him coaching the team, not wasting his own time reading and/or responding to emails. He should be above that sort of thing.

And why is he prattling on about the habits of supporter groups ... the Richmond stuff was just cringeworthy. He's obviously frustrated as are many of us but to lose focus like this is concerning.

To be honest, I'd rather not hear from him at all ... I've always judged the coach on how the team actually plays on matchdays. We're better than we were but we were coming from a ridiculously low base. We're still quite mediocre in the whole scheme of things and we've got a long way to go before we can safely say we're on firm ground.

The real issue is we still have far too many C & D graders on our list. That's been said every year for the past number of years which makes it doubly important that we draft and trade well ... and, we need to start embracing free agency - big time.

- 51 seasons without a premiership

- 2 grand final appearances in that time

- 12 finals appearances in the last 51 seasons

- a litany of off-field disasters including a failed merger that we (would like to think was thanks to vote-stacking) voted in favour of, the 'not tanking' tanking scandal

- a host of failed draft picks who were meant to help us become a better side

- top draft picks walking out of the club on a regular basis (thompson, scully)

- past greats being struck with bizarre illnesses causing their deaths at a young age (i still blame jolimont oval)

- past players and board members taking potshots at the club on a regular basis

- no dedicated 'home base' because we gave ours away to first richmond and then every other club

- a general sense of nothingness to the club

- tried and true 30k supporters who have stuck fat through the litany of failures being told they're 'negative' on a regular basis

damn right we are!

Well, if you put it like that

Well, PJ has indicated that there are solid reasons for our negativity so let's not bruise too deeply because the coach gave us a whack.

They're both right, we are pessimistic and on the efforts of the last nine years we have reason to be, so roll with it petals, suck it up and support the club.

Right or wrong is not the issue. Roos and to a lesser extent Jackson should not be [censored] on the supporters who still care enough to be negative in the first place. Would they rather apathy?

These guys need to focus on being professionals and getting the players to act like professionals with all that entails. Deflections like we've seen throughout the course of Roos' tenure is extremely poor form especially putting some blame on the supporters.

I like Roos and think he is part of the solution but this deflecting [censored] has got to stop. Blaming prior admins to protect the players is one thing, blaming the supporters is another thing altogether. Don't [censored] where you eat.

We're obviously negative, but this whole thing just shows how damn sensitive we are too. Both signs of depression, so perhaps our supporter base as a whole is suffering from the black dog.

He pointed out a fact, which was substantiated by many members on this forum telling the rest of us that they've sent Paul emails full of tears and disappointment. This is exactly what he was talking about. He'll continue to coach us and we'll continue to improve, and in the meantime I hope he changes his email address so he doesn't have to deal with the fruit cakes of Demonland constantly harassing him.

Roosy believes in the Tinkerbell effect.

In the Peter Pan Pantomime Tink has a near death experience and is only saved from dying by the belief of the kiddies in the audience.

Lets all believe in the Dees against Freo!

I rate Paul Roos.

Similarly, I don't rate the bland negativity of many Demons supporters. Never have.

They're just boring.

No that's not the scar thing. That's him saying pretty bloody directly that supporters in their cars who are expecting to lose have an influence on the players. Pretty clear comment.

'Pretty bloody directly?' - he mentioned the word 'vibe' FCS, and that the 'vibe' of the place rubs off on the players. Sounds a great deal like The Scar argument to me. The fans expecting to lose are indicative of the 'vibe' of the place - still trying to find the place where he says we are the cause of the 'vibe.'

And the rest of the quote is all about The Scar argument - as he references the fact that he is sick of talking about it:

"If supporters are telling you they are expecting to lose driving to the game, there's no doubt there's a vibe that must rub off on at least a small group of players. That's just something they [the players] have got to get over. I'm sick of talking about it."

The only thing he is sick of talking about and we are sick of hearing about is The Scar argument.

He may have said it all clumsily and vaguely but he doesn't think Ned from Carnegie riding in thinking we will lose is the reason we lose...

That's the kind of nonsense you usually boorishly rail against.

I rate Paul Roos.

They're just boring.

Well I don't rate Paul Roos.

But I'm stuck with him, and his boring game plan.

I rate Paul Roos.

Similarly, I don't rate the bland negativity of many Demons supporters. Never have.

They're just boring.

Nah they are just angry at being fed pizzweak excuses week after week.

This week is a line in the sand

This week we are going to play like maniacs

This week we are going to play angry

This week we are going to make up for our terrible performance last week

This week blah blah blah.......

As for their mental state, I thought Tammy Roos was on the payroll teaching them meditation??? WTF has she been teaching them if they can't focus on an outcome and put all the negative supporter 'vibes' out of their mind????

Its actually pretty pathetic that Roos blames supporters for being negative. FFS can't get mad at the players and have these Gen X/Y/Zs get upset because someone yelled at them or demanded improvement.

I can't believe supports are actually emailing him!?

Why don't we all just let him do his job, I don't think sending him an email is going to make a different to the result of Sunday's game!!

It's basically because they're stupid.

Roo's and Co inherited a broken club, both on and off the field.

Our fortunes were never going to change in a season or two.

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
