Do we need to hold a couple of picks for rookie upgrades?

There are endless picks. If we trade away all our picks - there will be more - enough to fill our list - that's why clubs have multiple 'passes' at the end. GWS had about 6 'passes' a couple years ago.

Pretty sure you just get afforded a handful of picks at the end of the draft for each list vacancy, then you need to pass on one or 2 picks if you want to have selections in the PSD.

Weren't we going to trade pick 2 for Bugg and Buntine 2 years ago?

Probably something H-H threw up...

You wouldn't be surprised based on his 'impressive' CV that you've placed in your signature.

I think as it stands we've got 8 off and 2 on (Melksham and Kennedy) and that leaves 6 primary list spots, with 2 likely rookie upgrades. So that currently means we need 4 live picks or 3 if we trade for Bugg. It's hard to keep track of the exact numbers because of the FA pick awards but it's something like: 6, 29, 46, 50, 64 (Vandenberg), 82 (Harmes)

Think we need to pay Terlich out and get another spot for someone who may have a future at the club.

I think it's a raffle after pick 15, this year especially, so not too concerned about having late picks if they're not really early.

We really need Bugg, if only because now that Howe is gone just to relieve Watts from copping all the crappy puns.

Can anyone tell me just which picks we have as of right now?

Would our second one be in the Rioli range??

Bugg would only fill Howe's place. At least we have Gawn & Dunn to spread the god-awful-pun load.

Yes, now that Howe is Gawn it is imperative we get the Bugg deal Dunn. That's Watts important. Cross my fingers.

The hold up might be that we can get him for free as a delisted free agent.

Can then use our picks for other trades we might have cooking.

Awful pun off? You blokes aren't Lyon.

But I'm not sure about Bugg. Someone needs to conVince me that we aren't just trying to keep up with the Jones'. I am happy with Melksham though; his added toughness will help keep Watts out of Harmes way.

I am getting more convinced with each passing hour, that we are trying to do another deal with Bugg involved.

It is a simple deal for probably our pick 50, yet it is not being done and there appears no angst from anyone about it, nor is it being reported on.

We now have only 1.5 days left of the trade period and it doesn't make sense to me otherwise.

Reckon we must be looking to improve our draft position while still landing Bugg. Whether it be through GWS, Sydney or Brisbane.

Probably that GWS are busy tying up the Treloar deal and the 4 players for 2nd rnd pick with Carlton.

The theme of our trades being the end of the line continues...

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
