It seems Lachie Henderson has requested a trade so Carltank have decided to not play him for the rest of the season.

He hasn't done much this year so not sure it helps our chances.

But their tanking strategy seems quite blatant!

Where is the AFL anti-tanking brigade now...callling Mike Fitzpatrick.

We will struggle to beat this lot unless we start fast and hard dosen't matter who plays

Ha ha. Exactly what I said on another thread. They want pick 1 and PSD pick 1. Trade Yarran, Henderson and they build up a few extra high picks. That is the Silvagni method.

Apparently in talks with Geelong.

Does this mean that Mitch Clark is finished?

Clark was finished a long time ago

Don't think it has anything to do with Mitch. Henderson is a defender nowadays, if anything it would spell the end for Rivers.

Haha nah just didn't read someones post properly and was already answered. Nothing to see here, move along.

On topic: Kent, Tyson and Salem would be some great ins this week.

If you are dropping Watts for this weekend's game then you are refusing sane logic in favour of a deep seated dislike for a bloke or you are trying to 'set a standard' with the same whipping boy to avoid tough questions of others.

Drop all the players you want before last week - it would not have stopped that first half...

I cannot remember the last time a player was asked to si out the season after requesting a trade so soon. Is this a refined form of tanking?

You can still get those players if you have the first pick.

my point is you could raffle the top few picks in the draft. often the later picks (upto 5-7) end up with the better player

True.

I'm very happy the Melbourne had picks 2 and 3 instead of 1 last year. The pressure to take certain players is enormous and in a lot of ways it is a lose-lose situation unless that player ends up being a super star.

I think its done all the time, just not openly

Imagine how this would work in NRL where players often publicly announce they'll be playing with a different club early in the season? While I don't like this approach, I have to admit it's a mature approach by the clubs who keep playing their departing player.

I don't see how this is mature at all. Drives me mad when people in the media say we need a more mature approach like the NRL.

Some key people in the NRL think it does harm to their game.

A mature approach would be to have a totally hands off approach to all players/managers/intermediaries until a predefined trade/contract period at the end of the season with massive penalties for anyone or any club that breaks the rules.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I don't like the approach in NRL where players announce their moves so early. But, if you're going to have a system like that, the bit that I think is "mature" is that clubs continue to play the player they know will eventually be departing.

Incorrect

The higher the draft pick the higher the probability of a quality outcome

There are exceptions but this is the general rule

It's basically because you get to choose first

Not overly scientific

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
