Previously, most Jack Watts 'tackles' amounted to a one armed chest tickle.

His form over the past couple of months has been most encouraging.

What fawning have you seen in the last few years?

He has done this before - strung a few good performances together, not as good as these last couple of months admittedly, and then he goes missing for a few months.

I have seen him chase blokes and tackle blokes and get hard footy and push hard to get the footy previous to this year - it was just so haphazard and seldom and his form so disjointed that we didn't know whether he was capable of consistently doing these things that would be required for him to be an AFL player for the long term - let alone a good player.

The difference is the seeming removal of the lapses in the above over an extended period of games. I still think he requires certain conditions to play well, and I would have dropped him earlier in the season for those conditions (wet weather, a literally 'tough' opposition), but I am glad he has shown over the past month and a bit a way of contributing in a variety of different ways other than simply playing lead up HFF that struggle to impact games when its too wet to link play or to tough to get space and clean footy.

So, I will have it both ways (without the fawning) - he has shown he 'can' do this and that is what we have pointed to - in 2015 he is finally showing he might well end up doing it.

And he is 24.

read my earlier post ,he is only 24 6.5 tall brain is starting to catch up with feet size

we are talking about those who wanted to force something anything to change re JWs:

..... you daisy are another who likes to hide in closet, instead of grabbing something & rattling its cage.

you swathe in the problem with the red & blue, its called conservatism. it killed off smithy & with him the 'checker aggro'... but those of you up there, who love the sterility, impotency, & that sanctity of you desires... you get watt you wish for all along. this is why most of the supporters of the outer, left long ago

your tribe, are the ones killing this club, with your pretenses of delusion & grandeur.

I have always supported Jack

I said he was crucified in the first game by the club the umpires the opposition and his teammates.

He had along way to come back but he never gave up

He gave lead after lead which were ignored, he got the ball and looked for a teammate who was not there. He often made two or three efforts before being overwhelmed.

He has always had sublime skills He was inconsistent and loped around, he did some things that were very ordinary

It may be that the last few weeks he has seen that there is now some chance of reward for effort there certainly was none in previous years.

We can now enter a game against any opponent with a thought that we can win

As more and more players have that belief there is more desire to give your best. Jacks best will prove to be the very best as we improve as a team he cannot do it alone but I know one thing he has proven time and time again He will not give up

Some people are just blinded by their own frustration.... According to many sitting around me (if you are to believe the comments being yelled out) on Saturday, Watts was the worst player on the field. People just find it so easy to pick on him for anything... Like the time (maybe a few weeks ago), where the opposition were breaking free and he had 2 men to cover and people would whinge they he failed his job... where was the anger towards the rest of the team for not manning up?

He gets the ball, looks up, assesses his options, waits for a free man, then pinpoints someone on a lead or in the open.... People need to stop yelling "WATTS!!! JUST DO...... SOMETHING!!!", while he's assessing his options. He's a whole lot better than anyone else in our team in doing that.

good call

he gets judged for his 'sins' way too harshly as do the other whipping boys such as Toumpas and Dawes

I've been taking it for over 50 yrs mate, & I learned to stand up to the bullies, the drug pushers, the bad cops, & those who think

they are of a higher standing than others, but are really caught in their dream of wishful-thinking.

this club found real success only after they imported Percy Page from the Tigers who brought in frank checker hughes & his fire brand of footy......

THIS IS where our demon-aggro came into this club, & when the conservatives sacked smithy, they sacked the Checker-Spirit, the demon Spirit, the spirit of the Demons, RednBlue.. went back to fushias

its still alive, in the NORTHERN stand, it lives up there 24-7.....

Could not agree more, it has become so tiresome. We know his strengths and his faults. He plays a good game and the Watts support crew come out in force, reminding others of their pro Watts opinions. He plays a bad game and the Watts haters are back louder than ever questioning his intestinal fortitude and whatever else. Lets be satisfied in watching his improvement and recognize that this young man has shown character and fortitude in dealing with the criticisms, scrutiny and public pressure. I thinks its a remarkable that he is still in the game, still wants to play for the MFC, and has been able to keep smiling throughout.

Can we discuss what type of contract he should be offered to stop him leaving via FA next year?

mum got polio @ 8 yrs of age, she was pushed around in a wheel barrow by her brothers, from that time uptil 16 yrs. imagine that for an teenage girl.

pluck doesn't come near it, when she scrubbed & polished vinyl floors on hands & knees, vacuumed the same, & would fall over out in public, as soon as the earth thought about moving.

her father was an MCC cricketer.. proud as punch back in those days when australian was one, a team. not a hierarchy like the try-hards of today... who want a perception of grandeur.

no; pluck is real. its a matter of survival & its in the dna.

I recognise whats going on, because I have been thru it. & so can see it. I wish others had the experience I've had with stuff like this, so they too could see what I try to show.

thats what I grew into, in my younger travels; when friends start to associate with drugs, & then pushes come into the group & they steal your jumper from under your nose, & you catch them wearing it 2 weeks later... what is a man to do but embarrass them, & fight them to get it back from them.

when they tell you your dead, they'll shoot you, they're s only one response appropriate to them; do not miss !

why, when the state this club has been in, isn't JW's fault at all; but rather the lack of development from Jack in his early days, was a direct result of the ways of this club.

its the club that needs to learn, why it keeps going off the winning rails, & gets cosy.

Rehabbing: Great to see Kentfield back (much slimmer), walking with Tholstrup, TMac (suspect just a management thing), Viney (still being cautious with that rib cartilage?), Melksham (

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
