I believe we still have a number of players on our list who are happy being AFL listed players on a good wage.

And not hungry enough for success. The MFC wage is the same for all clubs

I do not blame Roos at all, but i DO expect a savage cut and cull of our list this trade period

Otherwise Goodwin will get burnt without a chance.

Trouble is WYL for decades this club has often extended contracts on many of these types of players for just being, what would be considered by most top 8 or 10 clubs, a very good below average performer.

Most other clubs would also have a number of these if you onioned your way through their lists over the years, the difference being that they probably would've been culled a lot earlier and the list of them wouldn't be as long as a fresh dunny roll like the one at the MFC

Most of us would be disappointed with only 7 wins for the season.It may take a long time for some clubs to succeed,it all depends on the quality(!!!) of the players that are already at the the club.FRAWLEY,RIVERS,CLARK and SYLVIA were once considered stars at Demonland but in hindsight no great loss.The smarts with the Dees the club picked or stashed away some good talent in VANDERS,WHITE,HARMES,HUNT and possibly KIng.Good pick ups in BRAYSHAW,PETRACCA,STRETCH,O.MAC,SALEM,VINEY,TYSON will ensure the Dees will become a competitive side in the forthcoming years.The Dees should recruit well at years end,the downside may be a fan fav might get the chop,just have a box of tissues on hand.GO THE DEES IN 2016. Prediction WATTS,HOWE and GRIMES to depart,TRENGOVE to be back to best.

Yep you are right. We are essentially saying the same stuff.

That is why this off season has to be harsh. Roosy has given the choirboys 2 years to change their ways. More than fair. I am suprised Toumpas has been re contracted, but maybe it was between him and Watts. Both use the ball well. Choose one???

Goodwin must be "Ready" by years end not just to be a coach, but a damm good one

Any player with worth isn't getting dropped from the side, so I can understand a degree of disregard from Roos if true.

Anyway, I think the club's perfectly setup with the succession plan. Goodwin can spend 2 years becoming personable with the list while Roos plays the role of the "bad guy". Classic good cop/bad cop stuff.

The players don't need to love the coach they have to respect the coach, they respect roos i don't think many lions player loved Matthews , but they sure respected him.

And so he should. When Goodwin takes over he will have been schooled in everything and be ready to go - Roos came in to fix the culture and to improve the list. He's done both. Goodwin will take over a team on the up at the end of 2016... and that's down to Roos.

Part of why it hasn't turned into a Neeldesque style catastrophe is that Roos initially came in lending a sympathetic ear (at least initially).

Having worked as a teacher, in one capacity or another, I can tell you that when you have a class where classroom management has failed, the students will always point out the teacher's shortcomings.

Whilst the teacher's shortcomings are relevant, what tends to be ignored is what the students have contributed to the the situation.

I get the feeling that this is what has happened at Melbourne. Make no bones about it. Neeld was far from the answer and while he was very much hung out to dry in regards to the support structures around him, the way he was driving the football department was definitely the wrong way.

That being said, not everything he said was incorrect. While blokes like Jared Rivers and Chip Frawley didn't need a kick up the arse, blokes like Colin Sylvia and Brent Moloney did.

Really? I would have thought any Senior Coach worth his salt would want to make himself the "good cop" and ensure one or more of is assistants undertook the "bad cop" role.

That arrangement seems to work well for the mafia...and (successful) politicians.

King said he had been told that Goodwin would be taking on more duties next year, especially in the pre-season, and that our game plan was likely to change as a result. Said we would be more attacking next year, and might ditch the man-on-man style in favour of zones. Also said he thought we were well-placed to improve, that Roos had laid the foundations and we had a promising list. Nothing earth-shattering.

Edit: Also interesting that he said we would play "modern footy" under Goodwin, the obvious implication being that the Roos gameplan is outdated.
