Recommended Posts

MELBOURNE has added three players to its squad for Sunday’s clash against the Brisbane Lions at the MCG.

The Demons have included ruckman Mark Jamar, former co-captain Jack Grimes and midfielder Aidan Riley into their mix.

The trio has been named on an extended interchange, along with midfielder Dom Tyson, forward Jay Kennedy-Harris, first-year Demon Alex Neal-Bullen and rookie James Harmes, who all played in Melbourne’s nine-point loss to Essendon at the MCG last round.

No changes have yet to be made.

Interesting to see Jamar named this week instead of Fitzy. It seems the experiment of trying Macca at CHF isn't going to be perservered with this week!

Exactly, the same day Roos has an article about "the next 8 weeks" we name a bloke who's about to retire, a bloke who's overpaid and can't get a game but is still contacted for next year and a bloke who may well be delisted in ten weeks.

Wow.

At least give Newton and Michie a couple of games in a row to prove themselves.

Always going to be 'meh' changes no matter who it was.

Slightly surprised Michie didn't get named, however, while he got 30 odd possies for Casey last week he only laid 2 tackles in the wet while many of the other players laid double digits in tackles. I'm merely assuming here but that screams of a bloke who doesn't work hard enough both ways, something we all know Roosy isn't a fan of. He might have had his papers stamped.

Ho hum

How totally unimaginative.

Jamar FCS.

Daswe still there despite NO, ZERO tackles last week. Just what are his KPIs Mr Roos?

Conversely, it seems perhaps that Michie wasn't promoted because, despite a huge possession count he only had two tackles.

Honestly I really can't be bothered traipsing to the G Sunday despite having paid entry.

IF they do pull off a win, it will be "just against a bottom team", and if not .......l%#^*+%#!!!!

Frankly I find it very difficult to get excited by this motley crew anymore.

I would think Fitzpatrick's papers might be marked

For Jamar to potentially get a game in front of him would be a worrying sign!

IMV Fitzy has been on the list for what 6 or so years for 25 Odd games!

I think would hate to think the "Tunnel Ball" scenario was the nail I the Coffin, perhaps it was, but really what has he done in the time allocated to prove he is worth persevering with??

My Bench

Tyson Grimes Riley ( at long last to be given full game) Sub JKH!

Although if my sources are right there may be a late Change!

Changes are confusing to me and don't inspire confidence. If Jamar comes in, Dawes must go but Jamar lacks so much in mobility.. FMD. Grimes in .. yes I can cop that . JKH was useless as sub so maybe that is a change. Pig Dog - yes a real goer but not up to it IMO. Maybe Brayshaw isn't right and the Pig could replace his muscle - but not much else.

FIIK!

Have a look at the game as you obviously haven't seen the effort he put in for 3/4s. He was off the field for virtually the whole of the last qtr. Or alternatively read the Coaches assessment (last weeks as well) Not even a hint of him not doing exactly what was required. Or read the match reviews. I am a big fan of Viv (as DL know) but I cannot understand why he was not named this week. I am just glad that he is not one of these players that chucks the toys out of the cot when dropped or not named and gives his all every week. I do agree that he is likely to be gone at the end of the year. But like some others on here I do not think he has been given a decent go. Just my (bit biased) opinion.

Point taken Samael. I wasn't knocking Viv as clearly he had a terrific game last weekend, and the review of the game clearly stated that he was one of our better players. I was making an assumption based on the fact he had only 2 tackles for the game when others had 10+ tackles. Just seemed to stick out to me that, in a game that would have had a truck load of stoppages, his low tackle count was surprise and may be down to not running both ways as hard as others. Guys like Newton and Toumpas, well known outside runners, were able to lay double figures in tackles.

I'm probably drawing a long bow but, to me, that could be a reason why he was overlooked for someone like Riley.

I wouldn't write Fitzy off for that tunnellball. If he had played last week and restricted Daniher to a solitary handball as he did with Boyd, every Demonland thread would be singing a different song this week!

Feel for the Toump. Stretchie has similar numbers or less. Not anymore goals. Less tackles and just as many clangers and is still in. Love Stretchie. feel Toump's card also marked now. Back to shitilaide young fella.

Sorry Samuel....

I wouldn't say you're wrong jumbo, and we have a few who could be lumped in as 'VFL at best'. At least he clearly continues to put in each week and, if we have to name an extended squad, he is probably stiff not to get a look in.

Honestly, WB, I have no issue with the young man, but I've seen nothing that tells me that he'll ever be a consistent contributor.

You (and I) mightn't write him off for the tunnel ball, but it seems that Roos has.

Last week's match up on Danihar was just crying out for Fitz the Boyd killer: not just being wise after the event as I said it pre match.

This is just the sort of game where a young nobody, like Daniel McStay, will bob up and kick 5-6 goals and be a match winner too. That might a little pessimistic but, c'mon, now that I've mentioned it you can't help but think that it CAN happen...

    TRAINING: Monday 11th November 2024

Veteran Demonland Trackwatchers Kev Martin, Slartibartfast & Demon Wheels were on hand at Gosch's Paddock to kick off the official first training session for the 1st to 4th year players with a few elder statesmen in attendance as well. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning. Joy all round, they look like they want to be there.  21 in the squad. Looks like the leadership group is TMac, Viney Chandler and Petty. They look like they have sli

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
