Todd must be so proud of Jack.  He reminds me of the way the old man use to play more and more.

I agree, His father was a determined, see ball get ball type. Jack has all those attributes but his game on Thursday night went to another level. He has brought the fear factor into the heads of any opposition players for a long time who watched that game.

I usually try to avoid father/son comparisons but jeez that would be epic to see Jack vs Todd in his prime. The universe would probably implode such would be the impact of them coming up against each other!

Jack took the dropping of the captaincy like an absolute champ and now that he has it back (if only temporarily) he has gone to beast mode x10.

It would seriously be like the death star blowing up!

Playing football against Jack Viney was too rough so I took up UFC.

Makes sense.

So I guess now we can expect to see Jack Viney go to maximum intensity for a while?

Should be interesting.

I'm just loving Jack's season. I feel he has just taken his game to a new level if that's possible. He just never gives up on any contest.

Brilliant again today. His will to win is simply out of this world. I think he deserves to sneak his way into the AA team at the end of the year but he seems to fly under the radar as he's been living in the shadow of Oliver and Trac over the past three years.

He may not sneak an AA, but is well on his way to his second Bluey

Jack Viney needs to be in the conversation as the toughest and most courageous player in the AFL.

He is as tough as nails and probably eats broken glass for breakfast.

Totally agree. Does not get the recognition he deserves. Always gets praised for his hardness and for being a battler but that totally sells him short. Would be lauded a lot more for all that he brings if not for Trac and Clayton.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
