I think I said this elsewhere but when he makes the odd mistake, rather than drop the head, it drives him harder to make amends.

It's not even a question.. 5th in the B+F last year, currently tracking around the same, 98% game time as 32 year old, exhibiting everything we need for our on and off field attitude...the ultimate professional.. not just 2016 but 2017 at this stage for mine, what a champion

Yep. 2016 a lock. And 2017 a real possibility. Will be good to see him notch 50 club games.

Not sure if anyone mentioned him in the post match thread or in the player of the year votes but his job on sidebottom was sensational... Think sidebottom had, had about 20 touches when cross went to him late on the 2nd term, sidebottom ended up with 26 for the game. The way his going he defintly should play on next year.

Form alone he should play on, and then you throw in his leadership, training standards and the other reasons we picked him up

He has been serviceable since being moved back.

Absolutely no impact in the middle.

Let's not get carried away.

Perhaps he should play next year and be picked on form alone.

ideally, he will be replaced by someone much faster.

as a young team & list, still lacking leaders, we cannot afford to lose him.

he has to go on...

great example for all on the list from number 1, thru to 99.....

Deserves another year. He is back to his best form he showed at the doggies. His leadership and experience is ao valuable.

Serviceable?

Do watch games? Or pontificate from your lofty perch?

Absolutely dependable, reliable and smart. The mr fix-it of our team.

A lock for 2016.

Credit to the coaches who put him down back and probably extended his career for another 12 months.

They are also the ones that have found a role for Jack Watts that has contributed to his improvement.

Our football Dept is performing really well IMO

Far more than serviceable. Fans on this forum constantly plead for consistency, this guy is consistently good. Yes, he lacks leg speed and isn't a penetrating kick, but what is fantastic about him is that he knows his limitations, and therefore typically makes the right decisions. Incredibly reliable in the air as well. You say he should play next year and be picked on form but that's exactly what he's doing this year....and would be one of the first picked without question.

More of an Eyrie than a perch.

Serviceable.

Serviceable is not really a knock.

he has had some average games also.

my main criticism is his leg speed, which at 33 is naturally diminishing.

It is more evident when we get thrashed and you see an opponent run away from him but at least he still chases.

Good judge of a mark.

I hope his form stays strong also.

The term "serviceable" isn't a compliment. Since moving down back, he's been our most consistent backman, especially in our poor losses. I'd rather have him playing in the backline than Grimes and Garland, who both seem to drop their heads when things get tough.

One of the first blokes picked. We need his standards to rub off on to the young and talented brigade.

Definitely next year, definitely to be courted post football for a position at the club.

Screw that get him to 100 i want another mini Crossy running around in a couple of years time!

I would like to see him squeezed out of next years side because if that happens, our younger brigade have really stepped up.

Also, not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread, but I believe he's studying or has a qualification in the physical high performance arena/field similar to Misson. He would be a tremendous acquisition under Misson's tutelage.

Can get exposed by lack of foot speed and the odd fluffed disposal - these flaws are so thoroughly outweighed by what he brings to the team.

He knows when to sit on his man, he knows when to peel off or ran up to another contest. He is hard as nails and as said , his disposal sometime is iffy , his decision making is really good.

I love what he brings the team.

Made a big impact on Saturday in the middle when he went in to stop Sidebottom. Just took him out of the game...

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
