Agree. Neeld mistake # 9. Wines would have been chisen under Roos. Salem, Brayshaw and Petracca. Ni backward steps from these guys.

In hindsight if we had Wines then we probably would've finished higher on the ladder in 2014 and not been able to draft both Brayshaw and Petracca

And not having Wines, leaves the door open for Vandenberg and others..who might end up being better players than Wines at the end of their careers.

Doubt it. Wines is a star.

Bla bla bla. Get over it. He's ours, for now.

There isn't a living football supporter that would take VDB over Wines, although they possess many similar attributes.

Nonetheless, it's a good reality check that there are seriously good players out there; we just need to get better at finding and identifying them. Unfortunately, the success of VDB sent 17 other clubs into a frenzy, pushing them out into the minor leagues trying to replicate our success. Taylor would be doing VERY well to replicate a recruitment of equal success in this draft.

VBerg wasn't the first country player drafted. Pretty sure Isaac Smith was from the country leagues...

VFL actually, but only really the one season.

I've never got involved in the Wines vs Toumpas thing so I've got nothing to get over but anyone who thinks that Wines won't end his career as a great player is fooling themselves.

Mark Stevens has tweeted, his been told reliably that watts is going nowhere, is well liked at the club and will see his contract out at the least

Read that as, the club was happy for Watts' manager to look at other offers, but none were forthcoming.

In other words no takers. Ugh...

yeah or the club genuinely see him as a 'required player' as stated by coach and others over and over.

Another season to build on this years improved performance. If he does not prevail I think you would still have him as the same value as this year. Only really good for a trade package.

I thought that Roos said the opposite. And an improved performance that netted him 18th in the B&F is not saying much.

The only solace I take is that the media won't make such a big deal if Watts is playing at Casey. If he stands up, he could be the forward to assist Hogan. I somehow doubt it though.

It read it as we were selling and not getting near the price we were hoping for.

Frankly, good! I don't like the idea of just getting rid of someone just to get rid of them.

Watts isn't a cancer, he's a player with elite skills and some fundamental flaws but just came off his best year. String 5 months together like the two he had this year and he will be a valuable role player on a flank.

Geez the benefit of hindsight. Who the hell would we have taken with pick 4 if given the choice now? Wines. Macrae or Stringer?

Fairly sure if Roos was around a year earlier then Wines would've been the exact archetype of midfielder he loves.

or stringer

sons, it would have been the footy recruiting committee decide on that

I've not given up on Wines; every year is a differing scenario. things change, that is the only certainty.

watts could eventually benefit, from the Nev Jetta model of tactics. & a little similar to the StevieJ one as well.

Spencer White delisted from St Kilda after a couple of years. I remember hearing a lot of hype around him - worth a look at all?

Good. We'll take Treloar.

remember ..Collingwood always want everyone !!

Don't think so. Was always a reach at pick 25, more athlete than footballer and didn't really handle the step up to senior footy. Mason Shaw a better option of the delisted talls.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

  • PREGAME: Hawthorn

The Demons return to the MCG this time as the visiting team where they get another opportunity to put a dent into a team's top 8 placing when they take on the Hawks on Saturday afternoon. Who comes in and who goes out?
