Delistings/trades at end of the season

Featured Replies

Im thinking your taking the pi££.

After all trades/draft have occurred, depending on who's brought in, some senior players who were once getting a game on a regular basis might find themselves as depth or even bottom ten on the list players.

People have bemoaned the likes of Michie/Newton/Riley coming to the club. But if they're only given two year deals it can't hurt to use 2-3 spots on the list for fringe players at other clubs because everyone now and then you find one. The key is limiting them to two years unless the show something.

agreed & keeping NQR's on the list for too long, hurts the list, as those players not on the UP, then get stale; & this hurts the atmosphere & culture around the club... so freshening it up, even with a change of depth players helps stop the rot.

Sorry for the typoday all. This is a very drunken message from bali. But I will tell you what I heard tonight. Ollie wines had his heart set on coming to Melbourne. Todd viney rang him 2 days our from the draft to tell him we were not going to pick him. Basically was told we wanted to pick him but we're not sure if we could let Toumpas slide. Ollie was gutted at the time amd for 18 months after. He won't leave port for anyone now as in his words it turned out for the best for him. I can not answer if it was Todd or neeld who said let him slide, my understanding is it was neeld as Todd called Ollie to tell him prior to the draft. The rumour out of port adelaide is they do not expect Hamish hartlett to play there in 2016. He didn't turn up for the footy trip, apparently we offered a huge deal amd if it isn't us, it is sydney.

Ollie knows Jimmy Toumpas from underage level and he said Jimmy will be a seasoned afl player. As much as he initially hated not being picked by us, he understands that politics played there part, but I gathered that he won't leave port adelaide period. To.orrow the melbourne players arrive,

Sorry for typo. I'm drunk. But that's all I can give for now

Thanks for sharing GD. Sydney is interesting, they tend to get who they want and their first target is Luey - but they're restricted to 450K so it will make it hard for them, but maybe not impossible given their continued run of finals and the lifestyle on offer up there.

Thanks for sharing GD, enjoy Bali (sounds like you've made a good start!).

Apparently Matt Crouch is the latest player that we've been linked with.

Saints and Tigers in as well. One club is supposedly offering big dollars (and it's not St Kilda).

Thanks Generation D

Love a drunken update or 2

Make sure you get the Demon boys ears and find out what you can find....

I would have thought that the Tiges would rate Ben Lennon as highly as Matt Crouch, so I'd be surprised if they'd offered Crouch big bucks and let Lennon go.

Who said that the Saints aren't offering the big money? Just read the Adelaide BF forum, and a thread was started a month ago saying that the Saints had offered Crouch $400k.

Matt Crouch?

If it was his older brother then i'd be a bit more excited, as even a half broken-down Brad Crouch has more flair than Matt.

Don't really rate Crouch. Gets a heap of it, but is a horrible decision maker. His brother on the other hand...

Edited by Moneider96

I rate him as a good hard at it ball getter, he reads the ruck contests well but his kicking is all over the place at the moment. Do we need another hard inside mid?

Not really enthused on Matt Crouch to be honest. A great clearance player but his kicking ability is down there with the Terlichs and Bails of the footy world.

I read the trade rumour threads and that player 'x' is a 'ball getter' or 'hard at it' or 'a clearance machine' or 'is competitive' etc.

But I am not reading about any players that are fast, skillful or blessed with footy IQ

I hope that if we trade away Watts and Toumpas and Howe we find some players that give us some skill, IQ and outside run in their place..

That midfield needs talent - if like the Roos we are too heavy on inside mids - then we can find some outside players.

On the scale of 'problems to have' it's a step up from where we are...

That's pretty much where I sit with it, especially if we're offering ball park 400 p/a for him (unsubstantiated). Who knows, maybe we are playing a long game with Brad and starting by luring Matt?

Considering your drunken state the post scrubbed up all right.

Toumpas can get stuffed.

Sydney?? Trade sanctions lifted....how convenient.

Farting idiots. FMD we've made some horrendous errors.

Too late now though.

It's the draft ... comes with the job, and it's the same for all clubs.

Given what we've experienced across this season (especially the latter part), I'd be making "competitive" the first requirement.

No point being fast, skilful and blessed with a footy IQ if you only use it every other week, or 3 out of 4 quarters.

Geez the benefit of hindsight. Who the hell would we have taken with pick 4 if given the choice now? Wines. Macrae or Stringer?

Fairly sure if Roos was around a year earlier then Wines would've been the exact archetype of midfielder he loves.

Yep. Although Stringer's coming along pretty nicely too.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?

It was only a preseason match but the new look Demons spearheaded by new coach Steven King looked impressive as they put on a clinic against perennial cellar-dwellers North Melbourne as they cruised to an 80 point victory at Casey Fields.
