I want to congratulate and thank all who reside here for the fact that it's past 9.30am and no one has bothered to respond to Jon Perik's lame article in The Age today regarding the potential trade value of a certain former one draft pick whose name I will not mention.

Administrators feel free to close this thread immediately lest someone drops the surname or feels compelled to reward Perik's 'work'.

no idea wat you are talking about pitmaster

P..rick?

Why bother.

He gets his leads from here.

Lazy P.Rick he is.

I saw it and decided not to post it because I have had enough of the media just finding new ways of writing negative sh.. about Jack. They use/abuse Jack to create headlines. Then DL goes into another anti-Jack frenzie.

So I repost my post a few minutes ago from another DL thread:

I was not happy how Roos portrayed Jack 'dropping himself' as it just turned up the heat especially from past coaches.

Unheard of, they cried!! More negative Jack headlines resulted.

Last night on footy shows it was really good to hear Wayne Carey, Luke Darcy and Garry Lyon speak in strong support of Jack 'dropping' himself.

They said players are human, they should be cut some slack or untold psychological damage could occur. Furthermore they said:

- If physically injured players are given time to recover with understanding and without fan-fare.

- If emotionally challenged they should also be given time to recover with understanding and without fan-fare.

In any other environment the frenzied media 'headline' grabbing criticism and berating would be considered abuse.

I hope the Carey and Lyon comments are followed by the media to be more considered in their comments on players, not just Jack.

Not suggesting a 'kid-glove' treatment - just everyday respect being shown when criticising.

If the mainstream media changes its approach to Jack, hopefully it will rub off on the rest of the football public at games, on social media etc. Then we might get to see the real Jack!

So if DL's are going to post here can they show some respect and consideration toward Jack as Carey, Darcy and Lyon have.

I saw it Just Fluff not worth comment

Obviously this thread was made to discuss Jack Watts value in the draft so let's just get to the point.

I think this article is spot on in relation to his value and I also believe he will be on the trade table this year as it will be our last chance to trade him before he becomes a free agent.

I would not be at all surprised if the idea of walking away from the game hasn't crossed jacks mind, maybe going to an interstate team with less media attention would be the best thing for the kid, i know his efforts aren't great at times but what he cops is just beyond ridiculous.

Its a fair question but will it get fair treatment? Will it stay on topic?

To me it just opens the gate for people in the media and DL to give their critique/rant of Jack (again) which to me is bordering on abuse.

It just keeps Jack's name front and center for another week. Gee whiz...KB has just made it a discussion item on his radio show.

Why hasn't the media picked on (say) Bryce Gibbs for the last 5 years - also a # 1 pick who has done little more than Jack (in a lot more games)? Answer: Jack's name gets discussion going so the media will use/abuse him for their own ends.

Jack needs clear air to get back on track. He deserves that from eveyone.

Perik could write his article later in the year but no, he writes it when the kid is at his lowest ebb. Since when do aussies condone kicking someone when they are down.

Meh...

Got to fill the papers somehow before they disappear altogether because of irrelevance.

you could include niknak (6 marks in 7 games this year) and hwfua (except a bit better this year) as high draft players not getting full scrutiny

Not bagging Watts as I think he's a great bloke, but as it stands right now, if you could get pick 20-25 for him you would do the deal in a flash.

I don't think 20-25 is realistic though as those picks belong to low clubs and I don't think a developing list needs to add Jack Watts who, in my opinion, could be a cherry on top in a hardened team that get the ball inside 50 plenty of times.

I think it would be more realistic for a Sydney or Freo to offer their 2nd round pick (33-38).

Who knows though. Maybe Brisbane would fancy him as taller forward option and might think they brought in enough kids a year or two back when they went heavily to the draft? Maybe GWS would like an 'in between' tall option and might give you their 2nd round pick given they don't need any more 18 year olds?

Will be really interesting because on the one hand clubs have seen that not even Paul Roos has been able to address Watts' issues, but on the other hand clubs weren't put off by Frawley's deficiencies and backed themselves in to improve him in their systems.

I'm not sure, but certainly drafting in a top 5 midfielder and trading our 2nd round pick for a good B grader (i.e. Vince, Lumumba) at the end of this year is not going to see us sky rocket up the ladder next year. I have no doubt that Watts, Howe and Toumpas will be shopped and bundled with later picks and if Roos can turn any of these into bona fide AFL midfielders or draft picks that could yield a bona fide AFL mid then they will be moved on.

Yep, very true.

I guess the big difference will always be the way in which the MFC presented him to the public. It exposed him to more scrutiny than any other draft pick.

except offering a 20yo a mill/year contract for 6 years to be the marquee player would qualify as a big statement to the public

but i suppose once in the wilds of sydney's west it's all too foreign for the local melb press. probably niknak too in faraway westralia.

He was on the trade table last year, and the year before that.

Who was the media buffoon who said that 'social media' and supporter forums were the problem?

Got his email so we can all forward the article to him.

He is, after all, the only person who might learn anything new from it.

Frankly I could see the AFL securing us better compensation than a trade would if we wait a year and he leaves as a free agent. End of first rounder surely.

What a sad state of affairs it is supporting this club. Where you're happier for some players to leave in exchange for draft picks rather than attempt to retain them.

It's entirely up to Jack.

If he strings some good games and solid form 2 things happen

1 The blowtorch moves somewhere else.

2 The MFC get better

Over to you Jack. The vultures will stop circling if you stand up.

I like Jacko, I don't see his output as a massive issue, probably just needs to activate more energy at the contest.

.

Chris Dawes is our Marquee player on huge coin, hams it up in the media foot in mouth a couple of times a year, injury prone and liable to cross the tribunal, and go without a touch, now that's a problem.

Todd Viney and Mahoney, really the last two men standing from the purges, (If that is a word) appears they may be the problem if you must look somewhere at Football Depot mismanagement, particularly in regards to the poor list.

Lamumba, Vince and Cross, Jamar, now that's a huge problem as they will all be up for replacement, end of 2016.

Paul Roos, now he is a problem, what if a player quit in advance,? I would like to see that.

No, Jack is neither here nor there as far as the deep rooted problems at the club go.

No, what is sadder is that a number of those putting the boot into him here will then jeer him when he plays for his chosen new club... he will become public enemy number one because he turned his back on the Dees.

Winning solves everything, nick Nat is doing well as a ruckman, can't take a mark taken 6 marks so far this season, jack might drop a few marks but will take at least 3 marks a game, i think jack had a good year last year all his stats where up from 2013, he had a good start round one, its all mental with jack, he not very good with criticism, drop a few marks but other wise playing alright, he lost confidence then we have a period there we have two great sides now he has lost even more confidence, need to bring him back into against dogs,
