AFL Round 7 (non MFC games)

Top six teams banned from Free Agency trades each year and bottom six teams divy up the first 10'draftbpicks each year, first six picks go in order of how they finish, the next 4 picks go into a lottery or even go to the teams that finish in the top 4 of the bottom six so as to stop teams tanking. That is at least would be a start to equalisation in the modern era.

Something needs to be done - and that suggestion would be an excellent starting point.

The unevenness is probably a greater threat to the competition than the lingering smell of PEDs

If the Commission allows the vested interests of the wealthy clubs to nobble some real restructure it will likely see the error of its ways in the next ten years and realise it's folly albeit too late

They may need another off-season trip to the USA to observe the NFL again

So the Dockers have come out and kicked the first 5 goals against the Dogs in just 14 minutes of game time.

They are a seriously good outfit and clearly trying to show us Demon supporters that we aren't the only club they can smash in the first quarter of a game.

Looks like the doggies are in trouble.

15 mins into the first qytr: Freo 5.0.30. Doggies 0.0.0

By the time the bye comes round the usual lowly clubs will be back at the bottom and the usual high clubs will be at the top with a bit of shuffling in the middle of the ladder. Sadly, nothing has changed.

Next week's game at the MCG against the bulldogs will give us a better idea where we are at.

Not surprised that a week after the media proclaimed "the competition has never been more even!", we're back to the usual floggings. The media and the AFL would love us to believe every team has an equal chance, the reality is far different.

I wish I could dislike the Dockers but they have developed so many of their players from within. They've had a hard time attracting free agents, yet they have drafted superbly and developed their players so well. The Hawks and Swans have cherry picked so many good players over the last few years, but the Dockers haven't.

The Doggies go down by 30-40 points early and instead of dropping their bundle and going through the motions, they just tackle harder, chase harder and slowly turn the game in their favour. Now 11 points down against the best team in the comp.

Next week is unwinnable for us unfortunately.

It then went straight back out to 5 goals again. Dockers are just holding them at bay.

Next week the Dogs will start favourites but it's not unwinnable.

Didn't you hear the AFL's press release, Nasher? The competition has never been more even! Plus... um... equalisation... and stuff!

Don't forget, the price of chips has come down too!

Savings!!

errr....right....dawsey

Harsh. I didn't say at any stage that it's a win for us, but to right off next week as unwinnable against the Dogs is wrong. If we get a few players back like Hogan, Viney and Jetta we instantly become a better side.

Dogs midfield just plays smart footy that all other clubs play. besides Melbourne,

Why are our players so pathetically dumb?

Unwinnable?

Have you forgotten that they lost to St Kilda last week? They were so bad that the Saints were able to beat them by 10 goals in a single half of football.

Yes, they're a promising young side, but like any promising young side they're going to have ups and downs. They showed last week that if you play well, they are eminently beatable.

Dogs have 13 players with 50 games or less experience.

And some people here were using the excuse of inexperience for us in the last 3 weeks

What a [censored] poor excuse it is

The dogs have 14 players with under 50 games experience and look how they play.

I wish we would play like that.

Think we will get beaten up again next week unfortunately.

So sick of us being easy beats.

What does it have to take for Melb players to turn it around?

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
