The only way out of this mess is continuing turmoil and board upheaval, continued drafting of spuds, sacking of coaches and constant kneejerk reactions.

That's the long term reality theynow face.

I really feel for them.

In, fact I'm feeling really happy for them to be livin' the Blues.

Mick was very gracious to the press during his exit - bet he's looking for a gig.

I hear he's the biggest tight arse in football.

Silence might be part of the pay out deal cf.

even said nice things about the media

he's a monty to get a lucrative job in the media if he can keep spilling the dirt

he'll land on his feet no worries

Well, I'm glad it's a while until we play the Blues. Give them a chance to settle down again and get past the boost of a new coach.

Yeah - I suppose he needs a quid.

They should appoint Mark Neeld immediately. He was great at Collingwood. Carlton have a strong history of getting ex Pies.

Any of their crap demoralised, soft ,disillusioned ,weak players we might need to top up our list, from that pathetic bunch or is that just predatory thinking?

They wont cost much.

Daisy Thomas will be feeling a bit lonely tonight....

I'm pretty sure the 750k he's on a year will keep him warm.

Yes, the Malthouse endorsed protégés, Neeld, McKenna and Watters have all been great successes.

Wouldn't think we'll see Malthouse on a coaches selection panel any time soon.

Carlton need to change their constitution to prevent anyone called Mathieson or Pratt and anyone related to them by blood or marriage being ineligible for election. The perception of the average Carlton fan is that the Pratts and Mathiesons effectively control the club. It is possible that any moneys they donate to the club are more than matched by the hit to revenues from supporters not engaging with the club through memberships, match attendances, merchandise and functions because they feel alienated by their club effectively being in the control of 2 billionaire families.

The Australia Post and PWC CEOs must wonder why they joined such a dysfunctional board. They should sack the rest and start again with these 2.

Still the appointment of Silvagni is a positive. He has seen life outside the poisonous Carlton culture and should have an imprimature to build for the long term. But we know how long a rebuild can take when you've hit rock bottom and have a mediocre list. When you look at their list there is not much beyond Cripps, Docherty, Yarran, Menzel, Bell and maybe Jacksh to build on. Silvagni is already limited in his trade options if Murphy and Gibbs can't be traded. Leaves Henderson really is their only way to unlock a first rounder which he could do as a Centre Half Back. Yarran could also be traded given he is a free agent end of 2016 but he'd have to agree and a suitor would have to really want him a year early to pony up a first rounder.

I could see Yarran at Hawthorn, I can also see Hawthorn coughing up a first rounder for him.

Little Johnny was in class and the teacher asked him what his dad did on weekends.

LJ=Dad dances nude in all mens club and if he doesnt make enough money he sells his body to men to cover our bills.

Teach=leave the room now.

Teacher goes outside and asks johnny if its all true.

Nah replies johnny, dad plays for carlton on the weekends, but we are to embarrassed to tell anybody.

Come in spinner. Took Barassi off us by stealth. Bought premierships. The 2002 salary cap schemozzle. Elliott. Bringing in a peeved Malthouse and Daisy to win a premiership. It's taken a long time, and i hope it's a long time near the bottom for the good old navy blues. ps good song though.

Yarran and Gibbs are probably their most worthwhile players.

I think we could possibly get a year or two out of Armfield as well as a decent outside running depth player.

I also wonder if there is anything left to salvage of Kreuzer. What could he do if someone got his body sorted out?

Silvagni might be tempted into a comeback ... :) :)

Take Daisy Thomas off their hands and get them to keep paying the bill.

LOL. Funny, but I never even thought of him as a target.

some were calling for MnM to coach us about 2 - 3 years back.

no no no.

I an see Yarran @ Melbourne, as a Roosy special.

I'm pretty sure the 750k he's on a year will keep him warm.

Really?

Even Mr Hirds is on a million a year.

Malthouse did not fail Carlton, Carlton failed malthouse, i think mickey wanted to get back into coaching and prove Eddie wrong so bad, that he did not study the blues list closer enough, he believed what Carlton were telling him, that their list was close to a flag, in reality they were about to fall of the cliff.

Carlton are paying the price for tanking, the dodgy Judd Visy Ambassador deal and having The crook Richard 'Cartel' Pratt as their president.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
