Why would anyone want to drop stretch? Keep him in and let the kid learn he held his own

I'd make a few little changes to yours Tall Defence.

FB: Garland, Dunn, Jetta

HB: Grimes, McDonald, Lumumba

C: Cross, Vince, Tyson

HF: Vandenberg, Hogan, Watts

FF: Newton, Dawes/Pedersen, Garlett

FOLL: Spencer, Cross, N. Jones

INT: Brayshaw, Salem, Howe

SUB: Toumpas/Stretch

EMERG: Gawn, Stretch/Toumpas, Pedersen/Dawes

IN: Grimes, Jetta, Viney

OUT: Pedersen/Dawes, Stretch/Toumpas, JKH

Grimes to come in for their dangerous forwards and can also create along the back line. Jetta also for another dangerous forward. Viney picks himself.

Newton to the forward line. Obviously can have stints in the middle when needed but provides that unpredictable dangerous forward around goals.

Sub to either Toump or Billy. Both will have alot of energy waiting to burst by the end of the 3rd quarter. I'd be happy for either to have that spot.

Can't decide on Pedersen or Dawes for the forward line. Pedersen took some nice grabs on the weekend. I know that Roos would lean toward Dawes though.

The outs are unlucky but that is the way it crumbles sometimes.

Create what... havoc?

I doubt we will see sloppy ball users getting a run too much.

Viney and Jetta are good ins.

I have no idea who will make way.

Create havoc through turnovers!

Got to mention Spencer he had a presence in that a couple of nice shepherds and blocks, obviously hates kicking but not going to get any better if he doesn't practice.

Had a feeling the packs knew he was there and I would be telling him that. Also noted his second efforts and there were a couple.

I reckon a fair effort first up.

I wouldn't want to see Stretch dropped either. You can tell straight away that he will fit in at this level, if his endurance is a problem then sure make him the sub but he will benefit so much more than playing for Casey in my view. Be good to see him and Brayshaw play most games for the rest of the year, fatigue considered however.

Except that one where he handballed to jones and let the guy chasing jones run past him contributing to the resultant turnover. If only we worked as a team (hopefully gets better with more AFL experience).

ANB is still a little way off I would think 'CB', he's a good prospect but having a look at the Casey game I noticed he's 2 touching a bit and his positioning at times wasn't great.

These things will come good with more game time and coaching, could well see him come up in the next few weeks or at least by the end of season.

Spoke to a player from Sandy today who is also a Melbourne supporter. His thoughts from the game were that:

Grimes "played well but he is a man who is severely lacking confidence, you are actually able to see it"

Gawn played "not too bad"

Viv played pretty well and is when I asked if he was quick he replied with "only just quick enough"

Jamar was "alright but not amazing"

McKenzie was "pretty crap", he played on him for some of the day.

Just posting an oppositions perspective on our VFL performance.

Any news on Viney?

Wasn't any mention in "in the mix: round 6"

Jetta wont play this week. And I think Viney will be given one more week so hes 100% and ready to take on the Bulldogs.

Hmm I'm worried about Jetta. 3 weeks for a concussion doesn't seem right, what aren't we being told?

Thats not official news from anywhere , its just my gut feel

Now known that Viney wont play but Jetta not on injured list.

Out: Howe,JKH

In: Jetta, Michie

If weather fine Pederson to play to stretch their defence and give Pencil a chop out. Also Dawes calf does not fill me with confidence. Stretch as sub.

I thought Pedo was reasonable for his first game back. Would like to see him stay, particularly if Dawes come up. At least Pedo can clunk a mark, something that Dawes and Spencil struggle to do, and he is a better ruck option than Dawes.

Given Viney and Jetta are not right yet, we may not make many changes, if any. Maybe Stretch to sub and Watts as a wing/high HF. Interested to see how Tyson's knee has pulled up.

No room for Jones and Vince? I consider you a radical extremist and will report you to the Demonland Anti-Terrorist Group aka The Moderators.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits.
