Go Spencil.

I'm hoping Jamar really struggles to get back in.

And not because I hate Jamar.

But because we have spent about 20 man years getting our other talls ready and Jamar is now too slow around the ground.

he has been a great servant but a healthy scenario would see the other guys playing more.

i completely agree and understand. I have also said the past few years that when Nathan Jones doesn't win the best and fairest, but comes 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. then we know we are REALLY starting to develop and head in the right direction.

Tommy Mac would be winning the bluey easily i reckon

THIS, is a very, very good thing for the MFC then.

unfortunately, Jones, Tyson, Dunn, Cross and Vince have all been down on form so far this year, that's the top 5 from last year, which is definitely NOT a good sign

I'd argue the opposite, they're down on form, Viney has missed the last few and we're still sitting 2-3 and been fairly good in alot of the three losses, plenty of room for improvement

But WHY is our top 5 all down on form at the same time? That simply doesn't happen at 'good' clubs

In my assessment we were good against Adelaide but deplorable all day against GWS and Freo - in both those game I contend that the quarters in which we matched them (or better) on the scoreboard were a result of our opponent being in 2nd gear rather than us performing well.

I'm a bit down on them ATM, tomorrow night is massive for where we are at as a club.

l

Vince is coming back from injury, Cross is about the same, Jones has had some good games.

Dunn has been solid without starring but McDonald has more than compensated.

Tyson hasn't been as good but he is still very early in his career and will have form fluctuations - just as Nathan Jones did at the same age.

I guess I see the glass half full.

you know how I feel about the 'golden ticket' defense

if you are fit enough to be selected you should not be excused for underperforming

I don't know what injury Tyson is carrying, apparently it is one that affects both your ability to get your hands on the pill and your ability to use it

B: Colin Garland Tom McDonald Jeremy Howe
HB: Christian Salem Lynden Dunn Heritier Lumumba
C: Jimmy Toumpas Bernie Vince Daniel Cross
HF: Jeff Garlett Jesse Hogan Jay Kennedy-Harris
F: Cameron Pedersen Chris Dawes Angus Brayshaw
FOLL: Jake Spencer Nathan Jones Dom Tyson
I/C: Ben Newton Billy Stretch Aaron Vandenberg Jack Watts

This is an interest team that the selectors have put together given that there are 3 or 4 that would normally be selected in the 22 out injured. I feel that is very much a 'look and see' team. lets have a look at a few players and see what they can do.

On each line of that team as it is named there is interest.

In the back line we can see if Tom can continue his form against Buddy. On the HB line I am enjoying watching Salem quietly progress and seemingly take big steps in his development. Toumpas on a wing against the Swans is something to watch. is he as good as people who drafted him thought? maybe this game will start to answer a few questions.

The whole of the half forward line would be worth watching on it's own. Hogan and the kids.

Brayshaw named in the forward line... well I assume he will play around the ground a bit and it will be look to look for his tackles.

From the pine we have VdB and the new kid on the block. hope is a chip off the old one.

And then there is Jack. Jack Watts.

It will be a good game to watch. I am not too worried about the game score this season. I want to see the team develop and the players develop. it seems like it is a long time since we had a team that was actually enjoying playing football.

Would love it if Roos told them that they have to play to the games structures but they have to go out there and enjoy their football.

Spencer, Pedersen and Dawes all in the same side. Oh and Toumpas. Lord help us.

Anyway, weird statement made by dropping Jamar. Was far from our worst last week.

Interested to see what Spence does given last time he was in the team he was showing something. Not sure what it says about Gawn though, thought he'd be coming along a bit better to be given a look.

Given some of the concerns on this thread I'm not sure anyone here has been following Spencer's development. He has been carefully developed over the past several years. He has grown physically, in confidence, in aggro and in skills. During his last stint in the seniors he played some good footy until injured. Ross acknowledged this at the time, so he has clearly been viewed as the replacement ruck.

Let's just see what he has to offer.

Not sure it's that clear he is viewed as such BBO.

Roos is probably just rolling the dice and changing the deck chairs of those that "might" offer some semblance of hope at Casey.

I am hoping Spencil has turned into an elite ruckman after so much investment and time and Casey but only time will tell. My gut feel is that our ruck fortunes post Jamar lie outside of the current list. I've watched a number of games from Gawn, Fitzy and Spence both in the seniors and a few at Casey and while Spencil seems like he is ahead of the former two i still don't believe he or the others are the long term answer to a potential ruck dillema once Jamar's time is done.

IN: Frost, Viney, Jetta, Kent, Petracca, Trengove

Please

Doesn't rate Jetta in Melbournes top 10 and criticizes other poster for mentioning it, yet desperately wants him back in the side.

Lightweight..

Justin Plapp's views about Casey performances last week:

Maxy: "Maxy definitely played his best game for the year...The week before, Gawny had a performance that probably wasn’t his best...we just need to see a bit of consistency with his footy."

Pencil: "Big Jake’s past month has been tremendous...he’s had a good month of football."

Conclusion 1: Pencil ahead on consistency. Conclusion 2: Maxy can do it and could be rewarded when he does it consistently.

(p.s. Seeing him at Casey, when/if he can kick straight he offers something more in the forward line than Pencil)

Does anyone know the best way- paid or otherwise to watch this match live from New York?

Might try The Australian NYC facebook page. it is an Australian Sports bar. Never been there but might be worth a try.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
