Tom Rockliff was overlooked by us..

The knock on Rockcliff was he had no endurance and was overlooked in the National draft.

He was training at Melbourne and with all the tests done on him it was decided to use pick 1 in the pre season draft to select him.

It was then decided it would be a better outcome to use pick 1 in the pre season draft on Jurrah and then use pick 1 in the rookie draft on Rockliff.

It was never anticipated Brisbane would take.

In the 2009 AFL National Draft, Melbourne had four picks in the top 18 selections and we were looking for midfield talent to shore up our third world midfield. We took -

1. Tom Scully

2. Jack Trengove

11. Jordan Gysberts

18. Luke Tapscott

Fremantle took Nathan Fyfe with pick 20.

Also, in between Gysberts and Tapscott, Adelaide took Daniel Talia, Sydney took Lewis Jetta and Geelong took Daniel Menzel. Collingwood got Luke Ball with #30 so there you have a good few who got away considering three of our four are no longer at the club and JT will have missed near on two full seasons by the end of 2015 and but for a cracked foot would have been at Tigerland anyway this year.

Though that pick 1 got us Jesse and Dawes, so Prendergast must have been a genius or a clairvoyant.

We have tried to play catch up over 8 years rather than reinventing ourselves Roos is now just continuing the past . Just Pathetic and I cant blame him because obviously he is not allowed to drop under performers like Jack.

Dropping Watts is not the answer. His problem is confidence. Roos is showing belief in him and pushing him to regain confidence in the seniors. Dropping him will kill what little self belief he has after becoming the worst handled high pick in AFL history. He is one player that the club owes more to than he does to the club

The club owes nothing to these professionals other than an opportunity to participate at the highest level and if they perform they are valued and if not they get another career.Never understood this notion of debt in a completely professional sport

Imagine the confidence jimmy Toumpas got last year when he'd come up to afl level plays okay but clearly needs time to get used to the pace of the game but gets dropped the next week while watts gets chance after chance

Sloane, Rockliff and Wines were all seemingly players we were very interested in, had spoken to a lot, and were available to us at the time, but we took Bennell, Jurrah and Toumpas instead.

The Fyfe one is funny, you would have hoped one of BP's blind punches might have connected, but who is to say Fyfe would be the player he is today if he were a Dee.

Edit: obviously I would be willing to take that chance to see if he would have become that player

Absolute bulshit.

Yes, he was hyped up, and played WAY too soon.

But it wasn't that decision that made him a scared little man, who wees his smalls every time a physical contest is imminent, or even in the general vicinity.

He is a bust. Just like Toumpas appears to be, and just like Plodgrove appears to be (might be a bit harsh on Trenners, as he looked the goods early, apart from being a tad slow)

Drop him now, and make him EARN his place. My money would be it wouldn't happen, as VFL requires physical contact also.
