Dees v Dockers - Round 5

I am still very concerned about our ruck stocks and we will be smashed on Sunday

Jamar probably his last year.

Gawn the ruck game has changed and he is nowhere good enough around the ground

Spencer not skilled enough. King he his in Casey seconds.

Fitzpatrick cant ruck.

We have given a good ruckman away in Martin. Every time he rucked on his own with us he starred.

When Jamar came back in he was second ruck and didnt play well. Eventually he asked to me moved on.

I really wish we had him now! I believe we will trade for a ready made Ruck at years end

Who besides Leuenberger should we target?

From what we're hearing it sounds as if Spencer is really impressing. He has the ability to develop in to a very good, big, tap ruck man. If he can continue to consistently take 5 - 6 marks around the ground, then that is more then good enough output.

Tyson is just going through what Nathan Jones went through in his first years.. with more experience and a bigger body he won't get caught so often. I said back then that Jonesy must have been under orders to back himself so he could develop into a hard midfielder, the short term negative was that he gave away frees but now he's become a gem. It's the only way for Tyson (and Viney) to learn

very good point. Giving The Captain more freedom

Tyson will learn a lot.

Im flying blind on this but I am optomistic whoever comes in will play their role exactly ad Roos and Co ask of them. Maybe not the talent of those they replace but full effort will do me for now.

Roos & Lyon know each other so well. They know the philosphies of each other. Hell Roosy taught him!!

I am expecting bold and different tactics this sunday

A home game with an opportunity to go 3-2 is massive

Thrive on it Roosy

If we were to somehow get up, beating the top side and being 3-2 and in the 8, oh boy would there be a buzz around us.

that's what i am thinking Curry. We have to start believing we can.

Last friday may have started that.

Freo can be beaten if the MFC are up to it

I bet Paul Roos is.

I hope we get a good crowd and lots of melbourne fans turn up. Its an early game, going to be a perfect day weather wise. Sunny and 21 and you get to have kick t kick after the game and children get in for free.

Plus we are coming off a good win.

I am sure we will. Every Melbourne supporter is pumped just for the opportunity to watch a side that doesn't get molested every week.. and a monumental victory is some sort of chance as opposed to a zero chance like it has been in recent years.. make hay while the sun shines and get down there Dees fans! Side note: In round 1 (also against an interstate side) we made a LOT of noise at the ground, I truly believe this helped them to victory. When Robbo interviewed Watts after the siren, he desribed the crowd as being 'off it's head' - we need to bring it again this week.

Pretty sure thats when the Freo side was firmly in the top 4 and also brought over Peel Thunder dressed as Dockers.

Not exactly the same comparison to the same side we'll be playing this weekend.

Not true, just checked their lineup for that game and they were almost full strength except for Walters and Ballantyne

I fully expect a tight tough contest this weekend, i feel we're a totally different team and despite our injuries and so on we will be able to seriously take it up to the dockers.

I'd love to see vandenBerg go up against Fyfe but I imagine that Vince will get the gig.

That is not a silly suggestion at all. It will have surprise attached to it, VDB has the size and pace to match Fyfe, and it frees up Bernie to do what he does best - make mischief with on-ballers and defences. I must say I like the idea of Bernie free roaming cos he can be so damaging, but I absolutely agree we need to shut down their guns. They will not have heard of VDB, or will see him as irrelevant, so let's go for it and let him make hay.....

Crowd predictions?

I'm calling 29,000. You'll get 5000-6000 Freo fans here for the match. Super nice weather and dare I say we could hit 33-35k.

I think to have a chance we need our midfield to be relentless with minimal turn overs and we need spark!

I think Lumumba's form thus far has been average, his pre-season form seems to have tapered into cameos (like his ripping goal against Gold Coast).

Reckon he and ... need to explode on Sunday for us to get close.

I love it how people seriously think we are a chance. The mood on here is up and about only to be crushed come Sunday afternoon.

If we get within 6 goals of Freo we have done well. I predict a 9 goal loss.

I won't be crushed if we lose, the same way I wasn't crushed when we lost to Adelaide.

Considering what the Dockers did to the Swans and Eagles in their respective first qtrs it will interesting to see what happens. Stating the bleeding obvious we can't follow suite.

We've been good in our first quarters too.

Tysons holding the ball issues aren't injury related, he did it last year, it's just some technical stuff, he finds space in tight which is great but probably Looks to do a little too much at the moment

He seems one sided - looking to use his left side but without the time

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits.
