Scratching my memory a bit, Sku (it's nearly a week now since I heard it live and tonight's libations are kicking in), but his answer was along the lines of a very limited list of "good stuff to do here" (and one - surfing - wasn't even 'here') as opposed to a deeper "I feel at home" response.

p.s. I must say, though, that there was otherwise a good feeling about his immediate life here (a running theme was his jibing of TMac on golf matters and other things. TMac as in the studio, too, I think, and they were fresh from a round at Albert Park; Jesse the hacker (his words, sort of) and TMac the Jason Day wannabe)

I've just gone through some of his highlights this year. 39 goals (with three games to go) from a key forward in his first year is an incredible feat. I love that after he kicks a goal in most cases, he acknowledges the player who delivered it to him.

Offer him the "buddy" deal tomorrow

The deal that will sink all the Swans hard won respect.

Never again.

Jesus aint coming back.

Think of it this way....

Your name is Joe Blo and you are playing great footy for the Swans ,and are off the Rookie list.

You attend all the meetings, sessions, physio etc just like Buddy and Kurt(even a few more )

Contract time comes around and although you have played the same amount of games, are in the 10 top in the B and F,theses guys are guaranteed their 1 mill but you have to argue the point for your $250,000 ,beg to get a massage because 3 guys are doing Buddys legs before a match ,sit up the back of the plane etc.

Meanwhile other clubs are noticing your talents and are building something from the ground up and have offered you $320k

How does that work for the other 39 guys on the list?

The Swans are back to oblivion for the foreseeable.

The rising star might just come down to this week. Unless Jess gets a bag of 6 and Cripps gets 35+ possies I reckon one of the two will stake his claim.

Must admit though I'm less and less concerned about Jesse winning this award, he is already an amazing player at his age, he doesn't need a medal to tell him he's going to be a gun. I get the feeling a premiership medal is the only one he truly wants (hopefully while wearing red and blue!).

This was interesting:

http://www.triplem.com.au/melbourne/shows/rush-hour-with-james-brayshaw-and-billy-brownless/podcasts/

If you're OK to download the 53MB and get to the Jesse interview, his somewhat equivocal (look it up?) response to the "How do you like living in Melbourne?" question was where the worry lies for me.

Meanwhile, though, it's great to have him with us - with a bunch of other good stuff (albeit spasmodically!), it makes watching/following the Dees a little bit better than it has been in recent years!

That interview, that you can't quite remember, also had Hogan extolling his belief that the team he plays for will be 'pretty special' in a few years time and that he is keen to stick around for that.

The more you worry him into a commitment, the more you will worry him into leaving. I hope the club isn't as desperate or involved in as much shadow jumping as the fans are.

Jesse says he's a pretty average golfer in that interview as well.

Let's hope he likens the MFC to his golf game. Generally ordinary, sometimes downright terrible and highly frustrating but every now and then you hit a sweet shot and it keeps you interested enough to persist.

Thanks for the reminder rpfc. I think I overstated with the use of 'worry' in my original post (I'm not one of the shadow-jumpers, I think - more likely to just stick my toe in occasionally!) I do think - and was left with this overall feeling after hearing the interview - that he's definitely 'invested' for the short/medium haul while the team becomes the special one of his belief. The equivocal answer about living in Melbourne was perhaps more about what he might do after that, and I meant to point it out as a piece of 'information'. Saying 'worry' made my post subjective, which I didn't intend.

And, consistent with that, McQueen, I hope (think?) he likens current MFC to the 12 year old Jason Day and the team he believes it will become to the 17 August 2015 Jason Day!

The Rising star voting will be most interesting. I don't really care if Jesse wins it but I don't trust the people who will vote; Lewis Taylor, really?

If Cripps and Hogan were lined up and you could only pick one for your football club, it is a no brainer. Everybody, even Carlton supporters, would pick the key forward. They would hate missing out on a gun midfielder but key forwards like Hogan don't come along very often.

No not Carlton people.... They gave away Kennedy for a midfielder....

Did anyone else think of Matthew Richardson when watching Hogan on the weekend, he was getting frustrated with his opponents and chasing kicks way further up the ground then where he should be playing ideally.

I'd like to see other teams need to fill the space he leads into. Oh that's right he doesn't lead. I'd also be happy with Tom Mac teaching him all about one grabbers.

He was frustrated with his teammates, not his opponents.

He needs to keep that in check, although you'd need the patience of Job to put up with the morons who parade as his teammates.

Have you ever seen a dumber collection of footballers ?

He has every right to be filthy on the weekend. Gawn was getting in the way and spoiling him when he could have easily taken the marks.

But again there was lack of communication.

He can be filthy but he needs to learn to reign that in on gameday.

It's a bad look and it doesn't help anything. It just makes him look like a petulant child who won't share his toys.

I get that playing with a bunch of morons who can't kick to a lead, and having your space taken by your own teammates is annoying. But you deal with it in team meetings and at the breaks. You don't throw a hissy fit on the field, it's completely unprofessional and achieves nothing.

Yes Hogan is an amazing talent, but it is his first season. If I was Cross and he yelled at me, I'd tell him to go stick it.

Cripps now favourite but I've still got faith in Hogan. Fyfe/Hogan double now paying $3.85 pretty tasty.

Try Goldstein/Hogan on for size..

In order to get out of the mire, we need everyone to demand better of their team mates. I’m okay with it, TBH.

Privately. Not publicly.

I don't like seeing players disagreeing on the field. It shows a lack of unity and it tells your opponent that we are a mess and don't play as a team. Ripe for the picking.

Luke Hodge sprays his teammates fairly often. Coaches yell at their players. Forwards have been demanding better of midfielders since Moses wore short pants. It’s good.

EDIT: Obviously there can be too much of a good thing though.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
