Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Lay off Jack Watts...

Read it again, I said it's NOT because he can torp it into the centre of the G.

Aside from that, I like Watts. But I can't stand people who pump him up to be someone or something he isn't yet good on you for standing up for him but at last say it like it is Watts has been the weekest link in our team on so many occasions and yet he is still gifted a game each week, yes he has good skills, but good teams like Hawthorn, Sydney etc would not have him because he lacks......

.....

.....

What does he lack.......

......

Hardness & competitiveness !!!!!!!!

And he is not one of our most skilful and loyal players.

You shouldn't try to argue with Hardtack I think he's related to Watts or its his mother.

The point is that he is not one of our most loyal players, which was the original statement, he is neither the least or the most loyal and so, his name should not be associated with the term.

As I already asked, in what way is his loyalty in question?

Where did you get the second fact from, and what were his stats last year??

AFL website stats page.

22 games, 385 disposals (17.5 per game), 80% efficiency. That disposal efficiency is elite.

Supporters will be cheering him on in his 100th later today.

Just warming up for it are we? Right behind our guys? Pleased to have Roos on board, are we?

Is all this stuff you put on here something to do with your idea of being tough?

Give me Jack any day...

How is he one of our most loyal players, he is yet to play 100 games, he is an under performing high draft pick, if we were going to trade him at this current point in time we wouldn't get stuff all in return, let's be honest teams like Geelong, Hawthorn and Sydney don't recruit these types, they draft players with....hardness, skills aswell.

So the way I see it he is lucky to still be playing for the red and blue and still has a long way to go before he gains the respect of most MFC supporters....and that starts by his head on the line for his team mates.

Henrietta why don't you go onto the MFC website and see exactly what Jamar and the rest of Watt's teammates (and coaches) appreciate in him and how much they value the actual contribution that he brings to the Club and the team?

"I think the beauty of it is, he has so much footy ahead of him to change people's perceptions. If the perception is of unfulfilled talent, or doesn't work hard enough, he has ample time because he is good enough," Lyon said.

"I would say he has got to complement his God-given gifts with energy. That's what I just want from him - energy. Energy around the footy, energy in the contest," Lyon said.

"If he can complement what he has been handed, with some energy and work rate, he'll be a terrific player.

Salient comments from Lyon and no different to my concerns over his output. Despite protestations here, Watts doesn't work hard enough. He has the talent, but he'snot making the most of it. Some see it and some either can't or won't. Some do, but still won't hear a negative word.

I don't respect Watts' talent. Why would I ? He was born with it. He didn't earn it. It's what he does with that talent that's worth applauding or otherwise.

Some of us say nothing more than what is patently obvious to anyone that has a clue about football, yet so many here take it personally. Watts has so much more he's capable of giving. Many of you just don't realise it.

Last post is spot on. Most days In don't like Jack's approach to footy. I like many of the things that he does with ball in hand but dislike a lot of what he does when he hasn't got it.

I like Jordie McKenzie and his approach to footy. Unfortunately his lack of athleticism and skill will probably mean that he has eked as much out of his career as he can. He is the anti watts.

It's ok to have these opinions and they are not formed after watching a single contest.

Pro Dee, Henrietta Lumbago, jabberwocky, Frosty Demon et al, could you guys just bury the hatchet for one day and wish Jack well for his 100th game. After all he is playing in our colours.

Whatever your disappoints about Jack, he is out there doing his best for us. Cheer him on today. Tomorrow, go back to bagging him(...altho I for one would prefer that you didn't).

I'll respect your wishes. Although, I would say, you, and you're not the only one, are far too invested in the views of others.

I disagree with the bulk of what's within this thread, but it doesn't make me angry, which clearly puts me at odds with others.

I just think posters don't do themselves any favours when they say Watts isn't one of our most loyal and skilful then completely fail to back it up.

All they had to back it up was ask other posters to paste links to stats pages and name players who have never been chased by another club and even name a player who has never played an AFL game.

All we ask is, if you're going to make bold comments, back them up.

I couldn't question Watts' loyalty.

With all he's been through - the number of coaches, changed boards, admins and the mixed messages that all entails, he's been incredibly resilient and loyal.

Players love their teammates first and foremost, which is why it's difficult to prize them away. Clubs know they have to offer them a poultice to get them to move - unless it's the 'go home' factor, or the clock is ticking and they're sick of playing for a cellar dwellar.

Happy 100th Jack.

Keep doing what you do best.

Find the teammate that no-one saw.

Work through traffic and create play.

Run hard to position and demand the footy.

Find yourself with no opponent because you're a reader of the game.

Use your skills to bring others into the game.

All the best.

He was talking about public perception, not his opinion..

That hole is getting deeper and deeper.

Appreciate you doing justice to my signature.

Ok let's pump Watts up...

He's the most loyal player at the club

He is out most reliable player on the park each week

He does the non negotiables of footy each week

He is the most skilful player on our list

He is the hardest player on our list

He is worth 700k a year

He is the opposite to bruise free football.

I'm done.

Congrats Jack Watts on reaching 100 games in the red and blue. Your career so far has been a combination of flashes of unbelievable skill and decision making as well as some of the most frustrating moments that have to most symbolised the failure we have been over this period. This is mostly not your fault as you were thrown into the fray too early, made a public face of a club before you had earnt its respect, been through so many coaches, positions, game styles and team mates that you probably didn't know which way you're facing half the time. To get through this period and still be in the red and blue let alone playing AFL at all is amazing in itself and purely because of your god given talent.

In my mind from today what you make of your career is all yours and no one else. I will wipe the slate clean of everything before and rate you from this point on. There is no excuses as it is all before you and up to you what you make of it. You now have the mental and physical maturity, a clear role, the best coaching team anyone could hope for and the right people around you to drive the expected standards. I have no doubt you will play 100 more games as you have ability only few could hope for but whether you are remembered as one who coasted through it on skill alone or reach the potential that made us choose you at number 1 will be up to you.

All the best Jack. I have faith its in you. Give em Hell.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
