It's not about us, but is it embarrassing for a club to have the Coleman Medallist and the Brownlow Medallist in the same year but miss the finals? It's only happened three or four times before including the year Tony Lockett won both when he was at St Kilda.

I love how they are on this list twice. I'd like to see them win a second flag sometime so they can be on here 3 times...

The fact the mid-2000s Saints didn't win a single flag, let alone multiple flags, is a crime against their own supporters.

It's a good sign we haven't seen this thread for a while.

When will Kossie actually hold onto one of his hangers?
I've seen him almost take Mark of the Year at least half a dozen times.
Seems when he bursts through the ozone layer he sheets himself 😂

I think you severely underestimate how difficult it is to take hangers. It's why we see so few, and in fact, we are seeing less and less each season, because unlike before, players who jump too early, use hands in the back or interfere with the contest and don't hold the mark, get penalised.

I applaud Kosi for giving it a red hot crack as often as he does. Eventually one will stick and it'll be the mark of the century.

Meh .... I took plenty of hangers.
Also sheet myself a few times when I got higher than expected and dropped 'em.

And the AFL has never been so lenient in marking contests.
They want the big speccy to sell the game.
Kossie needs to commit and not just speculate when he flies and rip one down.

Some upcoming records to overcome:

Have never beaten Port on a Friday night since their inception in 1997.

Haven't beaten Fremantle on a Saturday  MCG game since 2021.

Have never beaten Carlton on a Friday night since their inception in 1897.

Has it really been that long?   How embarrassing.  :D

Several South Aussies in our Team will be the difference...

Not quite embarrassing but Petracca's five goal assists is the most by an MFC player since the stat was first kept in 2003. Previous record was 4 - set 15 times between 2007 and 2022.

He'd be thanking Kossie for his last :)

5 is ridiculous for goal assists. The year Melksham won the league total he only averaged 1.5 per game.

Except for one obscene outlier, the all-time (since the stat began) records for goal assists in a game include a few sevens and not many more sixes.

Maybe some day Petracca could be the one to cleanse that outlier.

We’ve only had 2 x 100 point victories this millennium.
Both against Carlton.

First in the naughties

Second in the teens

Get the twenties locked in.

And we let two slip in the last two years against the Suns and Roo’s, damn.!!!

Still worth a thread but the records are no longer a dagger to my heart.  We won a Premiership.  We crashed out of the finals last year but we won a Premiership.  We gave Roos a very MFC send-off with his greatest ever loss.  But we won a Premiership.  Hopefully others found 2021 as therapeutic. 😃

If much rather he stay down and crumb the ball. That's his role and clearly he is not good at marking spectacularly. He is really a great tease but it's too often for my liking.

Otherwise I love Kossie for his amazing skills and pace.

Yeah I'm the same, this thread was more like checkpoints on the way to becoming a better team and having a shot at a flag.

I guess it's good to still have things like this to strive for!

This made me chuckle.
As a matching pair I think we handed out his biggest loss as a Swans coach as well - the “Jamie Bennell puts the jets on for a goal” game at the MCG.

Have we ever played Port on a Friday night?

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
