AFL - Round 1 (non MFC games)

TV off, kettle on, chocolates out.

Got it on the radio and doing some work now, but I just can't look at him.

He's eveyr bit as good as he was at Melbourne.

I can't agree with that. He has no defensive pressure at all, and that was a feature of his play with us. He's had two uncontested marks for goals and a couple of touches up on the wing and HBF. He's doing ok, but not great.

Blease not even named as emergency. You'd think he'd struggle to get a look in with all the outside talent at the cats

Apparently he had 29 touches in the reserves yesterday, even though Geelong were thumped. He won't play a senior game for them.

Thank god the MFC have finally started to do what Hawthorn has been doing since forever - draft players that can execute basic skills and have an appetite for the contest.

I don't usually barrack for Hawthorn but find myself doing it today despite myself. I think it is because if Hawthorn are dominating I don't have to see those ex-Demons at the other end.

All class. Good on them.

Huh?

I don't think they're there to support Clark or Frawley but rather watch two of the best teams in the comp go at it.

Purely a learning exercise.

ED: loving the booing of him.

That hit by Johnson was cheap and should get weeks. Had potential to cause serious injury, was unexpected, from behind, and out of play.

However it was 2-3 minutes before the melee which and to center around Clark. Any idea what sparked it?

Does everyone know something I don't? Clark is being praised for [censored] us over and a couple months later going to a successful team

Courageous? I'm going to punch the TV in a second

If Mitch Clark makes a successful comeback from injury and whatever mental health issues he has (clearly he's a nutbag of the highest order even if he isn't depressed), it will be a fantastic story for everyone except Melbourne. We're the only loser here (though I can remember a nice goal that was kicked on the weekend that wouldn't have been kicked had things not gone down the way they have).

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w
