Remembering Rob Flower (The Robert Flower Wing)

picket fence

Recommended Posts

First game weeks away I would hope the club is planning something to remember arguably "The Greatest Demon" of all time!

Almost six months since his passing and given his stature not only as a Melbourne Legend but an AFL one I would hope some sort of Supporter recognition is afforded this Legend of the game??!

At the Start of the year I hope the club has thought about this?

Does anyone know anything?

Hnmm a few thoughts

What about a walk from Fed square to the first game gathering collections for Cancer/ Heart research? Given he had issues with both why not allow all who walk to take up a position on either wing ( on the ground) and show highlights of his play. The collections might be arranged into the configuration NO 2 in the centre of the ground?!

That's just an initial thought?

What about playing for a cup in memory of say Rob Flower / Ted Whitten on occasion of our game Vs The doggies??

Just a few "Random thoughts!

Anyone else have a suggestion??

hey D'Landers

Has anyone heard if the Club will be honoring Robbie Flower's life, come Round 1?

I tweeted the footy club a week or so ago, but heard nothing. Appreciate they'd have a bit on plate this time of year, some on here seem to be 'in the know'.

Either way, it'd be good if something were to be planned, legends like Tulip, don't grow on trees.

cheers

So you should be sorry Shadow - seriously I know you are only being light hearted.

Presume the cheer squad will have something to say on the banner BUT agree much more is warranted.

In my 60 odd years following the Dees I have Flower as the best ever Demon followed by Barassi - may be a big call I know - he didn't play in good MFC teams let alone Premierships but he was sensational.

Would love to see a statue near where the Jimmy Stynes one is - or anywhere adjacent to the ground - asap - he certainly deserves it. Will that happen - I have no idea.

Nothing from the club, on website

Hugely disappointing not to be recognised in the season proper I feel. Might ring and speak to someone tommorrow

In fact unless there are forces at work behind the scene planning something I would have to say an indictment on the club!

A great Shame!

How hard one minutes silence before the game and show some video highlights??

I feel certain that there would be something in the Pipe PF

Let's create an unofficial Robbie Flower Wing on the MCC Members/Olympic Stand side for all our home games at the MCG.

Can be unveiled before the start of the Gold Coast game as part of the pre-game antics that generally go on.

Don't think there's any need for anything on the banner or in the cheer squad.

Something like the above I'd imagine would be exactly what PJ was alluding to - supporters moving on with a level of respect for the past.

Thanks for listening, MFC. If you want any more ideas, you know where to find me.

Cheers.

To me it was already his wing. The shining light in the long dark years and brings back memories of often the only reason to make the long walk from my place in Port Melbourne to the ground.

A very fitting tribute by the club to the best player never to win a brownlow (he deserved about 3 of them).

You're a star, Billy! Can you also tell 'em how to win a game or two...?? LOL

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
