  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That was my initial take, which is why I was taken aback. But as Sweet and Sour Dee said, I think it was more of a dig at his former club.

Personally, assistant coaches shouldn't concern themselves with club politics at a new club. The reality of sport is that coaches get sacked, and all of them will tell you that the club panicked.

Nah from the vibe of it I think he was speaking in general terms about how bad teams turn in to good. Probably framed from his experience at Geelong not a dig at the dogs and definitely not a comment on any Melbourne specifics.

He might not see it that way but I'm sure it was. When the season finished he was set to coach the dogs the next year. Any review carried out of his performance would've had him staying. If there was significant doubt they would've reviewed his performance in September and had him in or out by trade week.

As far as I can tell McCartney's biggest error was appointing Griffen captain. One of the elite players of the comp (at the time of his appointment) who at his best was an inspirational on field leader. If Griffen refused the captaincy and McCartney forced him in to it then that is a Neeld style error from a man trying to be a leader of a football club. If Griffen accepted the job and then later couldn't handle the pressure then he made the mistake and should be very apologetic to McCartney.

Either way, most fail at senior coaching in the AFL. The expectations are just too high. Better to have tried and failed than never tried at all.

Or it might have to do with Gordon thinking he is everything at the club and knows all best and not being prepared to work to a plan.

To be fair, he offered his opinion when asked for it by Redleg. I don't see these comments as concerning himself with club politics.

Correct.

I didn't get the impression he was into club politics at all.

I have spoken to former players, as have many others on Demonland no doubt and the one thing they all agree on is, without good admin, coaching and development, you can't have sustained success.

We are fixing all these areas and are on the right track.

As an aside, ate at a Salem restaurant yesterday and spoke to one of Chris's brothers, who told me that Christian is loving the club and hopefully with a good pre season and no injuries, is looking forward to producing his best footy for the club.

Thinks we have a good bunch of youngsters who will develop into a strong team over the next couple of years.

I suspect this is very much the case. Have heard a few whispers he's somewhat autocratic and can often go off on his own tangents.

I think I posted this when he was sacked by the Bullies.

Was very impressed by this speech and very happy to have this man in our players' ears.

Thanks for posting the clip. Brendan McCartney is very impressive and obviously passionate about all things "Footy".

It is fantastic to have him on board.

I put up a thread about Brendan McCartney a few weeks ago too. I am very excited about him joining the Demons as a development coach.

Once I'm a bit more mobile (I am currently on crutches after recovering from knee surgery) I hope to have a brief chat to Brendan and welcome him to the Melbourne Football Club too. ☺

Having good quality football people like Brendan McCartney at our club will pay off in the long-run.

What an impressive individual. Love the bit where he says that when a kid is drafted he always promises the parents that he will take care of them like his own sons. Just shows why he was such an A grade talent developer.

Agree, Red. And if we don't offer those qualities, it makes it more difficult to keep/attract quality players. Particularly in this professional era players are looking to be part of high quality organisations who can offer them the opportunity to fully develop their talents and achieve team success. It's a virtuous circle that we have not been part of for a long time. Hopefully we are pulling ourselves up by our own boot straps, and can give this current group the opportunity to succeed at our club.

He has really carried that through to the mfc too, he is always giving pats on bums and good bits of advice to the younger guys, everyone already seems to really like him.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
