I for one like Mo64s take on things. This two grabbing thing Dawes does annoy me no end. And if are going to be something resembling an AFL-standard team Spencer and others have to start marking everything in sight. It the old cricket saying, if the balls in the air and you get a hand on it, it's a drop! Guys like Talia from Adelaide have little trouble catching the ball.

Agree with that as well, had a nice bruised fist from punching seat in front of me last year, again he seems to be one grabbing more often than not now, but like everything else...games will show us

Terrible news for Petracca, the curse continues 1 day after the 50th anniversary from when the curse first began.

How is Harmes going? Will Petracca's setback be his opportunity to crack it into the team assuming that vandenBerg takes Trengove's spot?

Is it safe to say that Frost won't play against Freo?

What is Garland's injury and how long will he be out for?

It looks like we may be a bit short down back if Frost and Garland are out will they push Pedersen back or will they give O.Mc a taste?

Garland's issue seems to be around the hip/lower back area, not sure, he is not very forthcoming

The problem I have with Dawes going for a mark and the reason it is always 2 or more grabs is he has both his palms facing the ball. Look at any decent mark ever and particularly Dunstall and Carey and they have their hands side on with thumbs at the back ready to grab it..

I agree he seems to have a strange/non classical way of holding his hands ready to mark, Brendan McCartney has been doing a lot of watching and talking about this during the sessions, heard him 'coach' Hogan and Gawn re the marking, he may get around to Dawes as well.........Don't forget Dawes is missing Round 1 and if Pedo gets the chance, he is not going to hand it back too easily this year

He didn't look particularly happy OD, so I didn't push it, agreed last thing he needs at the moment is an injury, had been tracking really well, looked to be back where he was a couple of years ago

As one of my very early coaches told me, "the thumbs are the shock absorbers of marking a football" Not rocket science.

As for the question on the rookies, Harmes hasn't been doing his chances of an upgrade any harm either, has done every session since Xmas break, has quite a bit of toe, also with the need for speed another forgotten player Jayden Hunt is nearly back to full fitness, participated in some of the drills on Monday, including catching and corralling Dean Kent, who is no slouch either

This is a personal opinion, think he tends to lead too fast sometimes and has to adjust at the last minute and doesn't get his hands right, notice in the drills they have been sending him long and having Hogan or Pedo as the lead up

I recall there being some sort of retina issue with him toward the end of his time at Collingwood. Not 100%, but thought he might have copped a finger (s) to the eye which did a little damage.

Don’t know what lasting impact there was.

Darren Bennett had wooden arms and hands but he did OK....

He had laser eye surgery one or two seasons before he left Collingwood (see link of an example article stating this). The funny thing is i remember watching him more around that time and i felt he was a lot more fumbly after the eye surgery (my subjective opinion based off nothing).

It could be a bit of everything we have just discussed, not brave enough to ask the big angry bear, although he seems to have even mellowed a bit, I think again if we can transfer the kicking skills from training to game day, he may have kicks down his throat and the two grabbing will be a thing of the past

I think it's his technique as mentioned earlier. He runs at the ball with flat palms facing the ball. Hogan and most decent forwards don't raise their hands till the last minute. Hogan really does clunk the ball in a vice like grip when it comes to him.

One of the final drills had an open forward line comprising of Dawes, Hogan, Pedo and Garlett and no defenders. The ball was moved from the backline and the forwards lead in different patterns, and whoever took the mark had a shot for goal. Garlett played as a high half forward and only touched it once. Pedo moved really well and grabbed everything. Hogan stood out with his mobility and presence. Dawes was either double grabbing them, or seemed to be too far under the ball which would have made it easy for a backman to spoil.

As others have said I hope the coaches are aware of these things and assume they also have access to far more sophisticated evidence than we have.

And that is certainly no offence to any of you guys who provide these great reports and vision.

I hope the coaches are aware of your standards as well and are propelled into being better than them.

Tuesday is skills day, so if he was doing that it is a good sign,

I counted four cameras on Monday, as well as coaches eyes, you can't hide a deficiency these days
